Each USCG approved course is composed of exam modules. Some courses have only one exam module, examples of these courses are Sailing, Towing, Upgrades and Renewal. The course offered by Sea School is $550, however all the other requirements you must satisfy such as the drug testing, physical, cpr and first aid add up to the $1000. There are also fees associated with submitting your application as well.

You can also use this license to work as a mate on near-coastal vessels, as long as you can document 180 days of sea time in the ocean. You need 360 days of sea time on any waters, with 90 on the Great Lakes if you wish to operate boats there, too.
