With more than 10,000 members competing in 16 sports, two clubhouses and 45 holes of golf, The Olympic Club has changed, but the camaraderie among members and their devotion to sport has not.
It wasn't long before the group decided to organize an athletic club and in 1860, during a meeting at the nearby Lafayette Hook and Ladder firehouse on Broadway, 23 charter members formed an organization they called the San Francisco Olympic Club. The name was derived from the ancient Greek Olympic Games.
Thankfully, there are ways to play The Olympic Club (and virtually every other private club) without a member connection. One of our most common strategies is to play in a charity golf outing.
It can play over 200 yards as it is an uphill tee shot that is well guarded by Cypress Trees and two deep bunkers in the front left and right of the green.
