“The caddies at Seminole have a term that's unique to the club: GVR (Greens Visited in Regulation). Your approach might land on some part of the green, but with the severe pitches and fast speeds, it's likely you'll roll off. And without any rough around the greens, you're headed to a deep bunker.”Apr 30, 2021

The course is tough, but not impossible I hit some good shots, plenty of bad ones and visited enough bunkers for a lifetime in just a few hours. But the thing about Seminole is, despite the growing pile of sand in my shoes, you enjoy walking up to even your worst shots. Seminole's sandy 17th.May 7, 2021
What makes Seminole so great? Al Jamieson (Panelist since 2013; has played 60 of the World Top 100): Obviously, its history, privacy and culture greatly enhance a classic Golden Age course. It's a very enjoyable member's course while presenting a good test to the very skilled, especially in the wind.May 16, 2020

Seminole is only open for a 5-6 month period of time and as I understand it most of the members live outside of Florida during the summer. This leaves me once again searching nationwide for the proverbial snowball in a snowstorm. Guest play at Seminole must be accompanied by a member.
The Dallas-based company has managed the course since it reopened in March 2020 after an $8 million renovation of its facilities by the Nicklaus Design Company. The par-72, 7,684-yard course is owned by FSU and home to the Seminole men's and women's golf teams.Sep 17, 2021

president Jimmy Dunne IIINo wonder current Seminole president Jimmy Dunne III called the club and the Walker Cup the “perfect pairing.” The 101-year-old, international team competition is everything a great golf event ought to be: The best amateur golfers in the world, playing on the most renowned golf courses in the world, and for the pride ...May 10, 2021

Situated on the Atlantic side of Florida’s coastline, Seminole Golf Club is considered by critics to be one of the finest examples of golf course routing. With small greens and serious trouble lurking beyond the flagstick, this is not a course to attack.
I first played Seminole in Juno Beach, Florida in the mid 1970s when it was rated as one of the very best courses in the world. Sadly, I did not feel the excitement then and in subsequent visits. It was a good course, but not in my top echelon. However, the total experience at Seminole is always top notch.
Seventeen is the final par 3 playing parallel to the beach. One could argue this is the best par 3 on the golf course playing over waste area with eight bunkers surrounding the green. It is an excellent par 3. Eighteen is a dogleg left to a large fairway with waste area and bunkers down the left side.
If you miss the fairway on some holes, such as the sixth, one is likely to end up in a footprint in the waste area and you simply have to get back to the fairway and not be greedy. In essence, Seminole has all of the attributes of a great course. It requires a deft, soft touch around the magnificent green complexes.
The par 4 6th is purported to have been Ben Hogan’s favorite golf course in the world. Ben should know, he would come to Seminole to practice before playing in The Masters. There is OB right and the preferred ball flight is a draw off the tee and a fade into the green.
One could argue that Pinehurst #2 is no longer a Donald Ross after the Bill Coore/Ben Crenshaw refurbishment, which would put Seminole back at the top of the Ross designed courses. It is a close debate either way. I was eager to see Seminole after the Bill Coore/Ben Crenshaw refurbishment.

Seminole is considered Donald Ross’ masterpiece. Although Pinehurst No. 2 is more well-known because of the various championships it has hosted over the years, Seminole is also in the top tier of Donald Ross designs. Seminole’s defense doesn’t come from gnarly rough or outrageous length or wacky weather conditions.
