Ever wondered why we have the Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga? Well, the race is named for the horse that upset Gallant Fox in 1930 and earned Saratoga its nickname as the "Graveyard of Champions".
Quarter horses racing 440-yard have been timed running 55 mph, the fastest recorded speed of any horse. Guinness World Record recognizes Winning Brew, a Thoroughbred, as the fastest horse in the world at 43.97 mph.
The horse, the subject of a popular book and movie, beat Triple Crown winner War Admiral in 1938, making him a hero to race fans across the country. At Saratoga in 1935 and 1936, though, he had a mostly forgettable record.

Saratoga has a lot of nicknames. But the most famous nickname surrounding Saratoga is the "Spa," and that's because the city sits on top of natural springs with waters rumored to bring good health to humans and horses.
The stand itself is a nod to the past — a replica of a judge's stand that stood over Saratoga Race Course during the late 1890s. The “Oklahoma” name also comes from history. Local lore says some horsemen of the early 1900s grumbled about the long distance they had to travel from the main track to the practice facility.
