How do I access my Canvas course?

Go to canvas.net and browse our course catalog. When you find a course you like, click the course tile to view more information. You can start the enrollment process by clicking the blue "enroll" button on the course details page.

Why can't I find my course on Canvas?

You are not registered for the course. Check the detailed class schedule to confirm whether you are registered for that course. The Canvas course site is not yet published by the instructor. Organizing your course materials can take shape in several ways. One of the main methods to organize/design your course is through Canvas modules or pages. You can use modules, pages, or a combination of both. Using Canvas modules provides the benefits of easy-to-create course set-up, easy-to-navigate for students, and consistent naming.

What is a course template?

Course Templates are designed to help you set up your course by following best practices. Click on each of the templates below to look at them. If you'd like to import one of these templates to your Canvas course, go to the Canvas Commons and search keyword: HSU.

The Canvas Course Navigation Menu: A Brief Introduction

For both you and your students, the course navigation menu is your means of finding your way around your Canvas course site. However, the menu may not look the same for you and your students. When you view the course navigation menu of a site in which you are an instructor, you will note that some links are black, while others are light gray.

How to Customize Your Course Navigation Menu

1. To begin adjusting your course navigation menu, click on Settings in the course navigation menu, and choose the Navigation tab at the top.

Using Student View to Check Your Course Navigation Menu Organization

Once you have customized your course navigation menu to your liking, you can use Canvas’ Student View tool to look at your course site through the eyes of a student. This is an excellent way to make sure that your students will have access to the correct items in the course navigation menu.

Enable Self-Enrollment

Click the Let students self-enroll by sharing with them a secret URL or code checkbox.

Add Join the Course Link

If you want to add an enrollment link to the Course Home Page, click the Add a "Join this Course" link to the course home page checkbox.

How to delete a course in Canvas?

To delete all course content from your Canvas course: 1 Navigate to the course with the content you wish to delete. 2 From the course navigation menu, select Settings. 3 In the "Settings" sidebar at the right, select Delete All Course Content. You will be prompted to confirm. To proceed, click Reset Course Content, or click Cancel to cancel. 4 If you selected Reset Course Content, a completely new course shell with a new ID (the number following "https://iu.instructure.com/courses/...") will be generated. All users previously enrolled in the course will remain enrolled.

When you reapply settings in Canvas, what happens?

When you reapply the settings in your Canvas course, the settings and navigation in your course will be replaced with those in the default template. Reapply settings before you start creating or importing course content. If you apply it afterward:

How to reset a course?

Completely resetting your course is a two-step process. First, you'll delete the existing course content, and then you'll reapply the default settings for the course.
