The state of Florida allows drivers to complete a Basic Driver Improvement course one time in any 12-month period. However, you can elect to take the defensive driving course no more than five times in your lifetime.
The fastest and easiest way to reduce points is to take an online Basic Driver Improvement course. In Florida, you have the option to take this course once in a 12-month period, but no more than 5 times during your lifetime. All courses, whether in a classroom or online, take 4 hours.

From the date you paid your fine and elected traffic school each county gives you anywhere from 60 days to 120 days to complete your course and give a copy of your Traffic School Certificate to the Clerk of Court.

The 8 hour traffic school course is divided into 15 sections. As the name suggests a student must spend a minimum of 8 hours in the course.
