Built in 1962, the hotel was renovated in 2007-2008, and one of the rooms was turned into a spa for massages, manicures and pedicures. A swimming pool is next to the restaurant.
On March 25th, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin reported that the hotel, which consists of a restored plantation and tent village, shuttered its doors after it was denied permission to build a 200-lot luxury development on 500 acres at La'au Point.
The owner of Molokai Ranch announced this morning that it is shutting down all of its operations on the island on April 5.

The company blamed the move on community opposition to its plan to develop multimillion-dollar beachfront estates at Laau Point on Molokai. Molokai is one of the smallest and and most traditional Hawaiian Islands, and some residents have opposed large-scale tourism and development.
