All licensees renewing a license in an active status must complete a two-hour Board-approved Regulatory Review course every six years. All Regulatory Review courses must comply with section 87.9 of the CBA Regulations.
In order to maintain Board approval, providers must complete a Regulatory Review Course Renewal Application Package (CE-RR-2) prior to the end of the two-year approval period. The CBA will maintain a list of Board-approved Regulatory Review course providers on its website.
February 22, 2021 2021 is a license renewal year for Illinois CPAs and CPA firms. Every three years, CPAs and CPA firms must renew their licenses and registrations with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), the state licensing and regulatory agency for CPAs and other professions.
Course Description It includes a review of current the California Accountancy Act and the current California Board of Accountancy Regulations. Also included are historic and recent disciplinary actions taken by the Board to help illustrate how the acts and regulations are enforced.
CPA licenses are valid for two-year periods in California and expire every other year at midnight on the last day of the licensees' birth month. Licensees have the option to renew their license in an active or inactive status.
To maintain a valid license, a CPA/PA must complete the license renewal application and submit it to the CBA with the renewal fee of $250. The renewal fee is the same whether the license is renewed as active or inactive. The application and fee can be submitted via mail or online.
CPAs can renew at https://connect.cba.ca.gov. Accounting Firm renewal applications are mailed to each licensee's address of record approximately 90 days prior to license expiration date. Firms can pay online and email their renewal documents to renewalapp@cba.ca.gov.

Continuing professional education, or CPE, credit is a term referring to the points professionals receive for participating in specialized training in IT and other fields. CPE credits are based on hours of study and count toward certification programs that enable professionals to maintain or update their credentials.
All firms and CPA/PAs operating as sole proprietors will be required to report to the CBA by submitting a Peer Review Reporting Form (PR-1) at the time of license renewal.
The California Board of AccountancyThe California Board of Accountancy regulates one part of the accounting profession: the Certified Public Accountant, also known as a C.P.A. or CPA.
If your license is inactive, you can't practice as a CPA or advertise yourself as such. However, if you wish to resume work as a CPA, you can do so more easily than you could if you had to earn your license all over again. You won't need to take the CPA Exam again, though you will need to catch up on your CPE.
You are not required to complete CE if you renew your license in an inactive status; however, you cannot practice public accountancy while your license is in an inactive status.
A preparation engagement is a non-attest service (meaning a service where no opinion is expressed or assurance is given) provided by Certified Public Accountants where they prepare financial statements or prospective financial information.
To renew your license online, access the payment options and fees page on the CBA website and click on your license type to find the “Renew Online” link. Complete the online payment with a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit card or debit card.
Peer Review requirement: As a condition of license renewal, all licensees are required to report peer review information to the CBA on the Peer Review Reporting Form (Form PR-1 (Rev. 1/12)). You must report to the CBA if required to undergo peer review, not subject to peer review, or renewing in an inactive status.
Please allow six to eight weeks for processing of your license renewal application. An incomplete or inaccurately completed license renewal application, including the CE Reporting Worksheet, may result in the loss of practice rights.
The Fraud CE requirement is part of the 80 hours of CE required for license renewal but it is not part of the 24-hour Government Auditing CE, A&A CE, or the eight-hour preparation engagement CE requirement.
P – Author of published books, articles, CE program instructional materials, or questions for the Uniform CPA Exam.
A – Accounting and Auditing (A&A) courses: pertain to financial statement preparation and/or reporting, auditing, reviews, compilation, industry accounting, attestation services, or assurance services. The content of accounting software courses does not qualify for A&A credit.
A Regulatory Review course is not required for an inactive status renewal; however, if one was completed, please indicate so on Part C (CE Reporting Worksheet) on the reverse of the license renewal application.
This two-hour course is designed to meet the two-hour regulatory review course requirement for California CPAs. This course is required every six years and is in addition to the four-hour ethics requirement for each two-year license renewal period.

Emails are sent to the individual licensee’s email address. If they have entered their employer’s email address as their individual email, an email will go to the employer. Someone who registers for a license using their employer’s email address and then uses their own email when they pay for a renewal should have at least two email addresses and would receive a renewal notice at both email addresses.
