Continuing Education - Professional development activities that meet the requirements in Chapter 367 and directly concern one or more of the following: (A) occupational therapy practice as defined in §362.1 of the OT Rules (relating to Definitions);

HB 2059 requires that HHSC approve at least one course available without charge. As part of the minimum hours of required continuing education for each renewal, OTs and OTAs must complete a training course on human trafficking that is approved by HHSC.
The list that follows contains examples of topics that are NOT acceptable for CE credit. While many of these topics may enrich your relationship with your clients or enhance the success of your practice, they are not required in order for licensees to provide occupational therapy services.
The OT Rules do not require that licensees complete a specific number of hours of training as HB 2059 does not set a specific number. To meet the requirement, licensees must complete an HHSC approved training course and retain the documentation of such as described in the OT Rules.
With the exception of the HHSC approved human trafficking course noted above, licensees are not required to take a course approved by a specific entity or take courses pre-approved by the Board. For the CE hours remaining after the HHSC approved human trafficking course, activities approved or offered by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) or the Texas Occupational Therapy Association (TOTA) are pre-approved for CE credit for license renewal. For courses from other providers, licensees are responsible for ensuring, for example, that such meet the definition of CE and are not an unacceptable activity as per §367.1, Continuing Education. Refer to Chapter 367 for further CE regulations.
At least 90 days before your license expires, the department will mail you a renewal notification postcard to your last known mailing address of record. You will have until midnight on the day your license expires to renew.
Failure by a delinquent licensee to renew before the expiration of the current licensure cycle renders the license null and void without any further action by the board or the department.
The process of renewing a license and receiving a printed license in the mail may take 7-10 business days. Initiating contact to confirm the receipt of fees or the status of your license prior to this time will not expedite the renewal process.

Although a course may have “job relevance” does not always qualify it to be “occupational therapy practice relevant”.

The Montana Geriatric Education Center (MTGEC) – affiliated with the University of Montana – offers two free 2-hour online courses on cognitive impairment. The courses are created for healthcare professionals.

The NBCOT Navigator. The NBCOT Navigator is a fantastic option for free quality continuing education. If you’re certified through NBCOT as an OTR or COTA, you have free access to up to 14 units per renewal period, which they call competency assessment units.

Licenses expire June 30 of every odd-numbered year. The renewal is an online only process on www.pals.pa.gov . The Board e-mails renewal notices 70-60 days prior to the license expiration date. Notices are e-mailed to the email address the licensee has reported to the Board on www.pals.pa.gov . The Postal Service does not forward licenses.
