UNC–Chapel Hill students use the ConnectCarolina Student Center to register for courses. Students should refer to the Registration Guide on the Office of the University Registrar’s website for instructions regarding registration.
Registration for credit for any course at the start of the semester is limited to the first five days of classes unless a late registration is approved by the course instructor and the student’s dean or academic advisor.
March 28, 2022 – Wave 1 of undergraduate registration begins. April 8, 2022 – Wave 1 of undergraduate registration closes at 11:59 p.m. April 11, 2022 – Wave 2 of undergraduate registration begins. April 15, 2022 – Holiday, no new registration appointments will open.
Click on the course in the course listing page that you want to register for. Click on the Register tab for that course. Click the Register button for the event. On the new calendar listing page, search for your event again. Click the Register Now button on the right side just under that events name. Click on the "Create a New Account" button.
If you are an enrolling transfer student, you may register for fall classes as soon as you submit your enrollment deposit in April or May. For subsequent semesters, you will register based on the total number of combined credits brought to and earned at the University.

Priority Registration allows selected student groups to register between 8 and 8:30 a.m. on their day of regular registration for the following semester. After Priority Registration ends, regular registration begins for all other students, who are prioritized based on the number of semesters they have completed.

During Maymester, students are making progress toward their degrees, engaging in experiential learning and conducting research during three weeks of intensive summer courses. Maymester classes are immersive, fast-paced and hands-on.
Winter Break operations are in effect from Saturday, December 11, 2021, through Sunday, January 9, 2022.
The maximum course load for undergraduates for a semester is 17 credit hours and for graduate students is 16 hours. The maximum load will increase to 18 credit hours for undergraduates at the beginning of open enrollment for each term. Continuing Studies students are limited to 8 credit hours.
Waitlisting is an option, if made available by the department prior to the tuition due date each semester. Waitlists are maintained in the order that you make your request. If you choose to place yourself on a waitlist you are automatically moved up the waitlist and added to the course when a seat becomes available.
You can check your waitlist position number by viewing your Class Schedule in list view, and keeping Waitlisted Classes selected.

At UNC-Chapel Hill, there are different modes of instruction for students.
Oftentimes, courses are so popular or necessary that multiple instructors teach the same course during a semester. To differentiate between the different instructors who teach the course and the times when they teach it, each course has a section number (001, 002, 003, etc.).
Undergraduate students are required to enroll in a minimum of 12 credits per semester. Graduate students are required to enroll in a minimum of 9 credits per semester.
The University Registrar serves as the central administrative office for students, faculty and alumni. The office helps students register for or drop classes, determine course prerequisites, pay tuition, coordinate internships, obtain transcripts and change residency and other personal information.

Credit overload refers to permission from a dean in Academic Advising to take more than the maximum number of academic hours allowed in a term. Ordinarily, you may enroll in up to 18 hours in a fall or spring term, eight (8) hours in a summer I or II term*, and four (4) hours in a Maymester. Requests to enroll in more than these credit hour levels require approval. (*Exception: nine (9) hours in a 2020 summer I or II term)
You earned a cumulative GPA of at least 2.500 and previous semester GPA of at least 3.000. You require an overload to graduate in the term requested. You obtain special permission from a dean. If granted, credit overloads go into effect day before the first day of classes of the term.
Once the drop deadline has passed, students must submit an appeal to the appeals committee of their college or school to request a late course drop. Students should consult with an academic advisor to discuss the appeal process.
If you are in one class, have attended the class and want to drop the class, you need to withdraw (since you will no longer be taking any classes that term). This also applies if you are in two classes, attended both and want to drop both, you will also need to withdraw.
You are strongly encouraged to seek pre-approval from UNC Admissions. This will help you know ahead of time how your intended courses will or will not transfer. During the first two weeks of classes, students may drop a course using the online registration system, but they are responsible for ensuring that their schedules do not fall below the minimum 12 academic hours required for full-time registration.
UNC–Chapel Hill part-time enrollment. Each full multiple of 15 cumulative credit hours earned at UNC–Chapel Hill in fall or spring terms (not summer terms) counts as one semester of full-time study for any student enrolled as a part-time student through Part-Time Classroom Studies.
First-year students must meet with an advisor for registration advising at least once during their first year before registering for their third semester on campus; an online module to assist students with registration, policies, and procedures is also available.
After the eighth week of classes, students must petition to drop courses through the dean’s office of the school in which they are enrolled . For students in the General College and the College of Arts and Sciences, the associate dean for advising (or designee) has this authority.
To declare a course on the Pass/Fail grading system, a student must complete the Pass/Fail course declaration form. Students should discuss the advisability of taking a course on the Pass/Fail grading system with their advisor before committing themselves to a formal declaration.
The department or curriculum in which the student’s primary major is housed determines the procedures juniors and seniors must follow for registration. In some cases, the student must meet with a faculty advisor in the department or curriculum of the primary major before being able to register each semester.
Certain University courses (e.g., applied music, special studies, undergraduate research, etc.) may be taken more than once for credit and are so designated in the course catalog as repeatable.
