The main purpose of the fine adjustment knob is to let you see the specimen clearer and closer as when you only use the coarse adjustment knob for focusing, it can break the glass slide. the course adjustment knob moves the slide in much bigger increments compared to the fine adjustment knob so it should always be used when using the high-power objective.
