A student will be given a seat in the first section that becomes available and all other waitlisted sections will be removed. Being placed on a waitlist/hold file does not guarantee that a student will receive that specific section. The waitlist manages students waiting for a day/time, not instructor or building/room.
Waitlist Check-in Beginning on the first day of classes, you must check-in daily. Visit Testudo and select Waitlist Check-In. If one day is missed, you will be dropped from the waitlist and must start over.
Look up the repeat policy It helps to know how many times you can repeat a particular course before you are out of the major. For UMD, you can attempt up to 18 credits. Continuing Undergraduate Students: Early Registration is typically held during November for the coming Spring semester, and from early April to early May for the coming Fall semester.
The Electronic Stamp was developed to allow offices to grant special permissions and approvals for registration via computer. All colleges, the Registrar's Office, and most departments have access to the Electronic Stamp.
The Waitlist is an option if you meet the course requirements established by the department offering the course (specific majors, credit levels, special populations, etc.) The Hold File is a roster of students who wish to register for a course, but who do not meet the departmental restrictions.
Some students may experience a registration block that prevents them from registering during their assigned registration appointment. Additionally, certain courses require special permissions to be able to register for those courses.

Incomplete grades may be used in two circumstances. They may be granted to students who are making satisfactory progress but, for circumstances beyond their control, are unable to complete a small portion of the course work. In addition, for graduate courses 799 and 899, incompletes must be assigned until the student has completed the thesis/dissertation. Excluding 799 and 899, the Incomplete Contract must be completed, signed and submitted. Procedures and regulations for incomplete grades can be found in the undergraduate and graduate catalogue.
Course grades are determined by faculty in accordance with information found in the course syllabus. There shall be a reasonable number of graded assessments or progress reports to permit evaluation of student performance throughout the course. These assessments shall be returned to the students in a timely manner.
W is used to indicate withdrawal from a course after the end of the schedule adjustment period. For information and completeness, the grade of W is placed on the student's permanent record by the Office of the Registrar. The instructor will be notified that the student has withdrawn from the course.
The Buckley Amendment of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act protects a student from the disclosure of personal and academic information to anyone other than the student, except under special circumstances. Posting student grades with either student names or social security numbers - in whole or in part - is strictly prohibited and exposes the University and the responsible faculty member to civil litigation. Other protected information includes, but is not limited to: special requests, current and past course registrations, enrollment status, financial aid disbursements, billing history and any disciplinary actions. Undergraduates can change the grading method in the registration drop/add screen throughout the schedule adjustment period. Graduate students can change the grading method in the registration drop/add screen up to the last day to drop a graduate course. Graduate students are not eligible for the pass/fail grading option.
