Not only is this section hard, but you have to do it again in 56 miles (!) making it the most challenging element of the Mont Tremblant bike. Use the five-mile descent as a change to recover and get your heart rate under control again. Then all you have to do is the whole thing all over again and run a marathon!

The IRONMAN 5150 is the Olympic distance triathlon event, comprised of a 1.5-km swim, 40-km bike ride and 10-km run.
As with Ironman, Ironman 70.3 is a trademark. 70.3 stands for the total distance covered in miles during the event. It's comprised of a 1.2mile (1.9km) swim, 56mile (90km) bike and 13.1mile (21.1km) run.
Athletes will start the 1.2-mile swim on the golden sands of the Beach & Tennis club, right beside the Tremblant pedestrian village. As you swim the 1.2-mile loop, you will enjoy the view of the sheltering mountains around this lovely, pristine lake. Lake Tremblant is a clean freshwater lake, with relatively calm waters at this time of the year. The exit will be on the new bridge of the Bird Observatory located at the corner of Chemin des Voyageurs and Chemin de la Chapelle. Please allow for a 10-minute walk to reach the start at the Beach and Tennis Club from the transition area.
The run course will have a distance marker every 1 mile. They will be in miles only, so if you are used to kilometers please accustom yourself to the conversion.
Any athlete that takes longer than 8 hours and 30 minutes to complete the race will receive a DNF and will not be eligible for age group awards and will not be eligible for IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship slots. What are the course cut-off times? Swim: Each wave will have 1:10 to complete the swim. Athletes who take longer than 1:10 to complete the swim will receive a DNF. Additionally, any athlete that starts in the final wave and misses the 1:10 cut off will not be allowed to continue on in the race and will receive a DNF.

The track features 28 metres of elevation change. On July 1, 2007, Mont-Tremblant hosted a round of the Champ Car World Series, marking the series' first race at the circuit since Indy cars competed there in 1967 and 1968, when Mario Andretti won all four races.
The first two sections of the circuit were built in 1964 and extended by another mile into September 1965. The extension featured long straights and by virtue of the terrain, a small hill. Nicknamed "the Hump" it gained legendary status during the inaugural 1966 Can Am race. Two drivers in practice found that their cars, both near identical Lola T70 CanAm cars, launched themselves into the air. Both drivers emerged unhurt but were unable to compete in the race. The Canadian winters quickly rendered the track surface very bumpy and as a result, the attrition rate was quite high in the two Canadian Grand Prix Formula One events staged at the circuit. Of the 40 cars entered in those two races (20 each, in 1968 and 1970 ), 21 reached the checkered flag (with only 16 classified – the rest finishing too far behind the race winners).
A major overhaul of the circuit in 2004 allowed more domestic and continental sportscar races to be held. Pit road was lengthened and widened featuring a new pit exit, while the pit straight was widened to 12 m (39.4 ft). A chicane was added in Turn 2, while Turns 6 and 10 were modified to create two separate circuits which could be run simultaneously. The signature hump was lowered 3.5 metres (11.5 ft) for safety, while Namerow corner was modified for additional runoff. The track features 28 metres of elevation change.
Carved out of the rolling hillside and surrounded by the most picturesque of scenery , Circuit Mont-Tremblant was born.
As well as racing, the circuit has long been home to a Jim Russell Racing Driver School, through which all three racing Villeneuve's first learned their trade – perhaps explaining why they all went on to great success. Anyone who could master Mont-Tremblant was probably ready to take on any other circuit motor racing could throw at them.
The Hump got a major overhaul, being lowered considerably, while Turn One also received a makeover, with an optional chicane added for the fastest cars. A new south course was also added which could operate simultaneously from the north (short) course, thanks to its own pit lane and paddock.
The nearest international airport is Montréal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, around 1 hour and 45 minutes away. Mont-Tremblant itself has a smaller airport with connections to Montreal and Toronto, though these tend to cater for winter seasonal traffic to the ski resort.

The course was inaugurated in August 1964 , initially as a 1.5 mile course, Ludwig Heimrath having the privilege of being the first victor. 'Le Circuit' – as it was affectionately known – was a true test of a driver's ability. From the start the course headed uphill to the flat out turn one, which had its apex on the crest before plunging downhill through a cutting to a series of esses. A couple of short straights and 90-degree bends brought the cars back up the hillside and under a bridge, before a blast up to the challenging uphill Namerow hairpin before sweeping back to the start through the Paddock Bend.
The circuit had changed hands a number of times over the years but in 2000 the whole complex was purchased by Lawrence Stroll, a Montréal fashion mogul who had made his fortune through the Tommy Hilfiger label and had been a sponsor during the dying days of the Lotus team in the 1990s.
Athletes will start the 2.4-mile (3.8 km) swim on the golden sands of the Beach & Tennis club located next to the charming village of Tremblant Resort. The swim in Lake Tremblant gives athletes a clear view of the sheltering mountains.

In preparation for this year’s race, we held our first ever Mont Tremblant Training Camp, an epic weekend with 2 x 112-mile bike rides plus a long run. In addition to this year’s camp, TeamEN has historically had between 20 and 25 athletes at the race every year.
Mont Tremblant’s brief race day history has been very generous. The temperatures are generally in the mid-70s with a slight chance of rain. Seriously vanilla. That said, don’t sweat the weather report until about Friday of race week.
The timing of an event should be the #1 criteria you use for selecting what Ironman to train for and race — not hills, not weather, not water temperature, but does rather the timing of the event work for you.
Travel costs and logistics: Tremblant is long drive from almost anywhere in the US. Even our Canadian friends have a solid drive unless they are from Montreal. You can fly, but a taxi would be $300 trip unless you have a hotel shutter.
Practice Swims: The course has buoys out there to swim for most of the year, but due to boat traffic the proper course won’t be fully setup until sometime Friday. You’ll be able to swim in the lake before race day, just don’t over do it! We recommend you swim briefly around your race start time to note the position of the sun.
Mont Tremblant has one of the longer transitions you’ll face, but the layout and design make it pretty quick. It’s basically a long run from the lake, up a street and into an extended area of tents that house your bags and the changing area. Your bike is racked in a similar area, with plenty of volunteers to help you out.
