Nov 19, 2019 · Since early 2019, rumors have been swirling around Florida and online on golf message boards over the future of Orlando's Grand Cypress Resort, one of the most popular buddies-trip resorts in one of the country's best golf destinations. The chatter heated up this September when The Villas of Grand Cypress closed, and then 27 holes followed this month.

Cypress Bay Golf Club in Little River has been sold to a housing developer, and has been scheduled to close after February for redevelopment. Columbia based Mungo Homes, who also have a pair of existing developments on the Grand Strand, has purchased the course. The 6500-yard Russell Breeden design opened in 1972.
Cypress Bay has long been known as the course with the attractive par-3 green along U.S. 17 South in Little River with a fountain in a pond fronting the green. Cypress Bay has been on the low end of green fees in the Myrtle Beach golf market.
It's unclear how this project will impact the golf experience at the New Course (also designed by Nicklaus) going forward. Currently, the driving range and golf academy are closed. Players can warm up at a chipping and putting green. At some point, it's likely the clubhouse will close, and the pro shop/check-in process moves somewhere else.
These changes to the resort hit home personally. I got engaged while staying at the villas in 2000. I remember going out to dinner at the Hyatt, where our waiter brought us celebratory drinks and dessert after finding out the big news. It was a nice touch.

That's a real shame, as the Grand Cypress Golf Villas hae always been my favorite resort in the Orlando Area. I have always enjoyed my stays there! The Golf and Suite Accommodations were always top notch, so the closing is very sad news to me!
That's really too bad. I really enjoyed the New course it's a fun unique course for an area of FL where everything else always feels the same. I played there most years around the PGA show.

Hope this is not true, the new course is a staple on our yearly golf trips to Orlando.
They plowed a Pete Dye course under to build the Four Seasons right down the road. I guess we shouldn't be surprised they're doing it here too.
