Some people consider Scrum Master as the Project Manager in an agile environment. To some extent, they are true, but not completely. Though, these two roles somewhere overlap to a certain extent. They are far different from each other. Scrum Master contributes to agile projects supported by Scrum project management principles.
Project managers still exist. That seems to be a friggin' miracle for some agile minded people who tend to advocate that there should be no more projects. Everything needs to be teams that work on products indefinitely. Scrum has replaced the project!

I like this. I want to add one more so both camps can find a common nemesis - both focus on implementation and not necessarily drive innovation or creation of new ideas. They lack the vision to go beyond execution. All jokes aside - I have not seen a description innovative project manager or innovative scum master. Always 'disciplined'
The comparison between a project manager and scrum master is not correct because the roles should not be compared. Scrum is a development methodology like waterfall. To unite the best of project management and scrum the method agile project management is worth investigating.

As I continue my travels through organizations small and large, I am finding that many job-titled Scrum Masters are unintentionally acting as Project Managers in disguise.
