While Stone Canyon is located in Tucson, home to rival University of Arizona, Mickelson loved the property and imagined adjustments he could make to increase its playability. So when the price was right, in 2014, Mickelson added Stone Canyon to his portfolio of courses.

The financial journal hasn't posted its story online, but it reports that Mickelson and his agent, Steve Loy, will pay just $20 for the bankrupt club and its Jay Morrish-designed golf course, fitness center and 25-acre cactus farm.

Early life and family Philip Alfred Mickelson was born on June 16, 1970, in San Diego, California, to parents Philip Mickelson, an airline pilot and former naval aviator, and Mary Santos. He was raised there and in Scottsdale, Arizona.
