Jesus taught his followers that those who live good lives and follow his teachings will be rewarded with eternal life in God's kingdom. Jesus also taught that those who commit sins and turn their back on God will receive eternal punishment in Hell.

In Christianity, disciple primarily refers to a dedicated follower of Jesus. This term is found in the New Testament only in the Gospels and Acts. In the ancient world, a disciple is a follower or adherent of a teacher. It is not the same as being a student in the modern sense.
A disciple is one who has been baptized and is willing to take upon him or her the name of the Savior and follow Him. A disciple strives to become as He is by keeping His commandments in mortality, much the same as an apprentice seeks to become like his or her master.

It will dry up and wither on the vine. While the Bible is an important and authoritative guide for Christian faith and practice, it isn’t the foundation or center of our faith- Jesus is. And if we truly believe that he is alive, we should also have faith that communing with him will produce spiritual life within us.
Hanging on the cross, Jesus spoke to his loyal mother and the apostle John who stood nearby. To His mother, he spoke, “Woman, behold your son” and to John, “Behold your mother”. Jesus was unselfishly thinking of his mother and making arrangements for her care even as He died! What unselfishness this displayed!
Even while suffering the anguish of crucifixion itself, Jesus was thinking about the forgiveness of His torturers! “Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing!” (Lk. 23:34). What amazing unselfishness this is, that Jesus instead of pleading for His deliverance, was pleading with God to make a way of deliver-ance for His persecutors.
Jesus was the most unselfish person who ever lived. All through His ministry we see His will-ingness to care for others and to give to others. But consider the cross as the ultimate display of our Lord’s unselfishness. If there was ever a moment when Jesus had a right to think only about Himself it was on the cross. After all, what evil had he done so as to warrant the hor-rible mistreatment He experienced that day? Would He not have been justified in delivering Himself from the pain of crucifixion? Could He have been criticized for not taking thought of others under such circumstances? Yet in spite of His ability and His right to deliver Himself we see total selflessness on Jesus’ part. Con-sider three examples.
For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 1 Corinthians 15:3.
Then the people said to Samuel, "Who is he that said, 'Shall Saul reign over us?' Bring the men, that we may put them to death." But Saul said, "Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today the LORD has accomplished deliverance in Israel."

1 John 4:19-21. We love, because He first loved us. If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also.
“Hear us, my lord, you are a mighty prince among us; bury your dead in the choicest of our graves; none of us will refuse you his grave for burying your dead.”
John 13:3-5. Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God, *got up from supper, and *laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself.
Araunah said to David, "Let my lord the king take and offer up what is good in his sight. Look, the oxen for the burnt offering, the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood. "Everything, O king, Araunah gives to the king.". And Araunah said to the king, "May the LORD your God accept you.".
Jesus teaches his disciples to be patient. To wait for him to fulfill his purpose in his perfect timing. To trust he will save their children in his timing. The trust he will provide for them in his timing. He tells us: Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!
Jesus humbled himself. And he tells his disciples to humble themselves. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 PETER 5:6-7. Humble people realize they need the Lord.
Jesus is continually “doing something” in our lives. And he isn’t simply trying to teach us “lessons.”. He has plans for our lives. Plans to transform us into his own likeness. And Jesus fulfills those plans. Perfectly.
Our Lord will continue to teach us to trust him for the rest of our lives. So we shouldn’t be surprised when we encounter the next situation we need to trust him in. 2. Jesus teaches his disciples to delight in him.
To trust that he will hear our prayers . To believe he will fulfill his promises. Jesus told his disciples to trust God to provide for them. “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.
The afflictions God takes us through reveal how weak we are. How much we need him. Jesus is the ultimate example of humility. Though he was God he humbled himself and took on human weakness.
Keep imitating him. Keep reading his Word, meditating on it, obeying it. Keep reading the gospels to see how Jesus lived. And don’t forget you are a disciple and will always be a disciple of Jesus. And even as you follow him, and do the hard work of a disciple, it is Jesus who changes you and makes you into his likeness.

There he drives the money-changers from the Temple for the first time (Jn 2:14). He also meets the Pharisee, Nicodemus (Jn 3:1) [8] Jesus leaves for the countryside of Judea where his disciples baptise believers (Jn 3:22) [9] Jesus and his disciples continue northwards from Judea (Jn 4:3), passing through the territory of Samaria (Jn 4:4).
Jesus teaches that following him is not easy ; it requires everything. “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Following Christ is not about T-shirts, slogans, or hashtags. Jesus calls us to be children of his Father. He calls us to be his disciples. Because Jesus has a unique role in God’s plan of salvation, he is more than an example. The best mirror we find in the Gospel accounts is not Jesus, but his disciples.
As those sent with a message to proclaim, his disciples were in danger as lambs among wolves (Luke 10:3) because they were announcing a different king. The heavenly kingdom they announced valued peace (Luke 10:5) and healing (Luke 10:9), not riches and power. Challenging existing authority structures is often unpopular.
Jesus seeks out his disciples after his resurrection, though they were absent at his crucifixion and burial. He speaks peace and comfort to them. He died for their sins and rose from the grave so they also could have new life. As he sent his disciples into the world with the promise of the Spirit (v. 49), so he also sends us.
Jesus spent a lot of time teaching his disciples about reality. Who did the Messiah come for? Who is worthy of salvation? What is the kingdom of God? We are just as ignorant and resistant to the truth; we need instruction.
The apostles walked with Jesus. Many longed to see what they saw. This is part of God’s “gracious will” (Luke 10:21). We also witness the love and power of Jesus through his Word and his work in the world. The arena is much bigger now, but his disciples still sit court-side.
Inherent in the definition of a disciple is one who does not choose his own direction, causes, or values. Disciples follow Jesus. 4. A disciple is aware of the kingdom of God (Luke 8:9–10). Jesus reveals truth to his disciples that is obscured to others.
