SVSU students are placed on academic probation when they fail to meet the cumulative grade point average designated by the university. Students are notified of their probationary status via an email to their SVSU email account or a letter to their preferred mailing address on file with the Office of the Registrar.

To formally change your major you will need to contact the Registrar's Office (989-964-4085 or [email protected]). You will need to include your SVSU student ID number and indicate your major and/or minor that you intend to pursue.
3.4With a GPA of 3.4, Saginaw Valley State University requires you to be around average in your high school class. You'll need a mix of A's and B's, and very few C's. If you have a lower GPA, you can compensate with harder courses like AP or IB classes.
A grade of “D” is not a passing grade for any required course. Regarding prerequisites, students must obtain at least a “C” grade in all prerequisite courses before being permitted to enroll in subsequent courses.

After the 1st week of the semester, students must pick up a course withdrawal form from the registrar's office, complete the form, and submit it to the Registrar's Office to be eligible for refunds.
You will need to email us ([email protected]) or stop by the office so we can manually register you for the course. Students will not be able bypass the pre-requisite and/or hold on their own. Students must provide us with the approvals before the expiration of the waitlist notification.

Students will be initially placed into mathematics courses by ACT math sub-score, as detailed below.
Placement into ENGL 103 or ENGL 104 provides students with the opportunity to prepare for reading and learning from a variety of complex texts, which is essential to academic success in a university setting.
Writing course placement will be based on appropriate scores on authorized assessments, such as ACT. All SVSU students (except those who transfer appropriate course work to SVSU) must submit a score on an authorized assessment to determine writing course placement.
