All eligible applicants must submit a completed online application to be considered for admission. Only students in the 8th or 9th grade can apply to IMSA.

FOR APPLICATION OF 2022: The SAT is not required to apply, but the SAT test is required for admitted IMSA students to be submitted for their student file if testing sites are available to them.
Located in suburban Aurora, IMSA’s campus consists of 7 residence halls spread across 97 acres. You will be part of a community of 652 diverse students who are passionate about learning.
All applicants undergo a competitive admissions process involving the review of grades, teacher evaluations, student essays, and SAT scores. Historically, approximately one-third of applicants in any given year are admitted.
The acceptance rate for the highest SAT score range, 1500-1600, was 7/8. Conversely, the acceptance rate for the highest possible GPA range, 3.75-4.0, was less than 50%.
Although IMSA does not offer AP courses, 597 AP examinations were administered to 278 students.

For each applicant, IMSA computes a total composite score. The total composite score is combination of three components equally weighted: SAT I, grade point average (GPA), and Review Committee Rating.
The residence halls are places where living and learning meet. It is there that each student will meet new and different people, encounter new ideas and differing values, and test the student's self-discipline. Students will find the residence halls are places where all of the elements of the IMSA community fuse.

IMSAloquium is an annual, public event during which IMSA students showcase their work. SIR students present their research, students participating in the Business Internship Program present their experience, and students doing independent studies, and other innovative work are also invited to present.
The Illinois Math and Science Academy is a boarding school for 10th through 12th grade on the outskirts of Chicago, funded by the state, but existing outside the education system.
