A New Jerusalem John first described the new creation as a marriage of heaven and earth. Heaven is represented as both a city and a bride, coming down out of God's heavenly domain and landing on earth, much like the staircase Jacob saw in his dream.
Based on the Book of Revelation, premillennialism holds that, following the end times and the second creation of heaven and earth (see The New Earth), the New Jerusalem will be the earthly location where all true believers will spend eternity with God. The New Jerusalem is not limited to eschatology, however.
It is not something that exists eternally but rather part of creation. The first line of the Bible states that heaven is created along with the creation of the earth (Genesis 1). Indeed, God will breathe life back into the dead, restoring them to an earthly existence. And God will bring all the dead back to life, not just the righteous. It is clear that Paul has the unconditional belief that he will experience full life with Christ after death (see Dunn 1998:487ff). He is clearly of the opinion that he will die soon, but that death will not be a disaster as he will receive a building in heaven-full life with God.
After the Tribulation, Jesus will return to earth and reign for a thousand years. He will cast Satan and everyone who has rejected Him into the lake of fire, where they will stay forever. Then a new heaven and a new earth will be established. God will make all things new, and the curse of sin will be forever reversed.

The Bible talks a lot more about the resurrection of the dead as our hope for the future (e.g. Romans 6:5, Philippians 3:11 ), than about our being in heaven. The resurrection of the dead is part of the Gospel message (e.g. Acts 4:2 ), not our going to heaven. After the Last Judgment, there will be a new heaven and a new earth where we will live ...
Paul expressed the same confidence that after death he would be with Christ: “My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better” ( Philippians 1:23 ). So it is clear that we, if we believe, will be with Christ after we die.
