The course was a 10-turn, 0.7 mile (1.13 km) and utilized the keyhole section of the track. There is grandstand seating for 10,000 spectators and three observation mounds alongside the track raise the capacity to over 75,000. Mid-Ohio is classified as an FIA Grade Two circuit.

A: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course opens its spectator gates at 7:00 am each morning of the event weekend. All spectators must be off the premises by 7:00 pm or within an hour of the last scheduled event of each day. Campers can stay until 10:00 am on Monday following the event weekend.

Personal golf carts (those not rented from National Carts) and other off-road motorized vehicles require a $100.00 vehicle pass paid to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and purchased separate for each event. Pass will not be required during the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days. The pass must be clearly displayed at all times.

1980. Johnny Rutherford wins the first Championship Car race held at Mid-Ohio, piloting his Chaparral-Cosworth to the win at an average race speed of 86.60 mph on the track's 2.4-mile, 15-turn configuration.

The race has also featured support series such as the Road to Indy, Global Mazda MX-5 Cup, and Stadium Super Trucks. In 2015, hometown favorite Graham Rahal won at Mid-Ohio for the first time, thirty years after his father, Bobby Rahal, won his first race at the track.
In 2013, the track hosted its first NASCAR event as a 200-mile race with the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The length of the race was shortened in 2018 to 170 miles. The race has partnered with Trans-Am, Stadium Super Trucks, F4 United States Championship and partnered ARCA in 2020. Unlike most of the events held at the track, the Xfinity Series uses the normal start/finish line located on the pit straight to start the races, instead of the start line on the back straight.
In 2019 the ARX came to the track which was the first time rallycross had come to the circuit. The course was a 10-turn, 0.7 mile (1.13 km) and utilized the keyhole section of the track.
Founded in 1993, The Mid-Ohio School offers licensed drivers and motorcycle riders programs in defensive driving, high performance driving and performance track riding programs. Students in each course partake in classroom and private instruction and group drills.
In 2006 a second major refurbishment saw several improvements. The entire circuit was repaved and the concrete patches in the turn apexes were removed. A new motorcycle "short course" was created by connecting turn one with the backstretch and another motorcycle oval was created by connecting the chicane straight with the backstretch. The additional layouts allow simultaneous use of the multiple course, for instructional and competitive uses. The improvements also included a motocross facility, that has since been used for the AMA Vintage Motorcycle days event.
In 1990 the track underwent a refurbishment. A new retaining wall was built, the entire track was resurfaced, widened, and concrete was paved in the apexes of the turns to prevent asphalt deterioration. In addition, a straightaway was paved through the chicane, allowing for two different track layouts, the original 2.4-mile (3.9 km) circuit and a new 13-turn, 2.258 mile (3.634 km) circuit.
The Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course is located at Lexington in central northern Ohio, 60 miles north of Columbus and 70 miles south of Cleveland. The nearest airports are Port Columbus International Airport and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, both offering connections to other major US destinations.
Under his direction, the track underwent major renovations, including the addition of permanent grandstands, amphitheatre-style seating, garages with viewing balconies and several buildings such as the iconic Goodyear Tower and a redesigned paddock area.
In 2006, the track again underwent extensive renovation. The track and pit lane were completely resurfaced, removing the concrete patches from the turns and installing standardised kerbing across the whole course. New link roads were also added in the track's famed Keyhole section to allow for three separate road course configurations, two of which could be run concurrently.
General parking is free on the outfield, while infield parking can be purchased in advance. A free shuttle service operates around all parts of the site on racedays.
The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is located midway between Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio off Interstate 71. The Cleveland and Columbus airports offer connecting flights to major hubs, and are served by all of the major domestic airlines. Rental car access in Columbus is super easy because the lots are connected to the main terminal, but in Cleveland you have to ride a shuttle, so you should allow extra time to pick up and return your car.
It has a rhythm to it that is wonderful and the high-speed back straight, the rolling hills, and concrete canyons challenge you every lap. You have to be a little careful not to get stuck in one of the gravel traps, but once you get the hang of linking up the turns, the track is a thrilling rollercoaster that will keep you very busy behind the wheel.
