Yes, your friend says Lanzarote is as tough as Kona, and on the bike course, that's probably true. But, surprisingly, the average marathon times in Lanzarote are quite fast, in the mid 4-hour range. Combined, Lanzarote's average finish time is a brisk 12:30 or so. It's been that way for the last 2 years.
