The New Orleans Writing Marathon may have begun in Louisiana, but it has been spreading quickly and is now occurring in over a dozen sites around the country. My last marathon took place in Baltimore during the National Writing Project Annual Meeting in November 2001, and it was even fresher than the first.
New Orleans Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Route The race follows a flat and fast course stating on Poydras Street near Lafayette Square. Runners circle around the central business district before heading along St Charles Avenue towards Audubon Park. The route then turns east back along St Charles Avenue in the direction of the French Quarter.
The expo was at the New Orleans Convention Center on Friday from 12 pm – 6 pm and Saturday 9 am – 5 pm. Like other Rock n Roll events, you cannot pick-up packets for other people. As I mentioned in my review of the 5K, I felt the expo was noticeably smaller than some of the other Rock ‘n’ Roll races I have run.
The course is very flat. You get to see the beautiful neighborhood houses and the French Quarter. Lots of musicians help you keep up the pace. The medals were cool–especially if you do the Remix (the 5k the day before and then either the 10k, half, or full the next).
This race is not as easy as the course elevation map makes it appear. Yes its a downhill course, but there are some uphills too. Everyone knows about the monster hill at mile 7 in Veyo. After you get to the crest, it levels off and then continues to climb for at least another mile, albeit at a smaller grade.
This is such a well done race and a lot of fun to run. The course itself is not so hard and passes through all kinds of fun spots in the LA area.

Mostly paved in 500-year-old Inca stone, the trail is 4-6 feet wide and is treacherous.Mar 24, 2021

Across 26.2 miles, you're bound to encounter a hill or two. The L.A. course is no exception, with uphill sections that can present a surprise to unprepared runners. Though elevation estimates vary across sources, the Los Angeles Times calculated a total elevation gain of about 950 feet.Mar 6, 2020
