If you need to remove yourself from a class after the Add/Drop deadline, your option is to withdraw. You have until the withdraw deadline to decide, which is the 10th week of a semester or 6th week of a term.
If you choose to drop a class after the drop deadline, it is considered “withdrawing” from a class. When you withdraw from a class, instead of having a grade on your transcript, it will be marked with a “W,” and according to the school policy, you may not get your money back that you had paid to enroll.
You can withdraw from our program by contacting us at 1-855-381-2621 (toll-free) or 801-422-8122 (local). You may also send us an e-mail at [email protected]. If you need to withdraw from a course, you may do so at any time as long as you have not requested the final exam or completed the course.
You can withdraw from your course by (1) logging in at is.byu.edu with your BYU Net ID and password, (2) selecting your course from the list of your current registrations, and (3) selecting Withdraw under Edit Enrollment.
Students can enroll at any time and finish as soon as a week and up to one year.
Failing & Then Re-Taking a Class Croskey notes that dropping a class is better than withdrawing, but withdrawing is better than failing. “A failing grade will lower the student's GPA, which may prevent a student from participating in a particular major that has a GPA requirement,” Croskey says.
Withdrawal usually means the course remains on the transcript with a “W” as a grade. It does not affect the student's GPA (grade point average).
If you don't officially drop the class, you are responsible for all tuition and fees. WITHDRAWING A COURSE means: • That you are removing a course from your class list after the Add/Drop period has ended. • is the official notification to the college that you will no longer be attending the course.
Recently Admitted Students (Not Yet Attended BYU-Idaho) Will NOT Attend After Mission: If you do NOT plan on attending BYU-Idaho directly after your mission and you have already accepted your offer, please contact the Admissions Office to change your admissions offer to “Declined” and officially withdraw from school.Jan 8, 2021
What's a W? A withdrawal from a class (W) is GPA-neutral: instead of a grade, you receive a W notation on your transcript which does not affect your GPA; you also don't earn credits for the course.Feb 28, 2020
If you are considering withdrawing from BYU-Idaho, please be aware of the following:
NOTE: If you withdraw your financial aid may be affected. See "Financial Aid" bullet point above.
NOTE: If you withdraw your financial aid may be affected. See "Financial Aid" bullet point above.
Will Attend After Mission: If you plan on attending BYU-Idaho directly after your mission, please fill out a Missionary Deferment Request. This allows you to start classes on the next track assignment following your mission without the need to re-apply to BYU-Idaho.
Students may drop classes at any point during the registration period up until the Registration Deadline (7 days after the 1st day of the semester). A full tuition refund will be given for classes dropped up to the Registration Deadline.
When a student withdraws from BYU-I after the Registration Deadline (7 days after the 1st day of the semester) , a pro-rated refund will be given until 60% of the term or semester has passed.
If you are attending a block class, special rules could apply to you. Be sure to contact our office to learn about what options are available.
No refund will be given for dropped classes after the Registration Deadline unless the student officially withdraws from BYU-Idaho. In addition, there will be no refund given when a student withdraws from school after 60% of the term or semester has elapsed.
By having attempted more credits than you have earned, you can delay your degree completion, and this could impact your financial aid. W’s are never removed and appear on transcripts as being part of your academic records.
To drop a class without any penalties (Drop with Refund), you must drop it before the 100 percent refund date. Students can drop courses online through the MDConnect student portal.
