The 99th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) was crazy, exhausting, dangerous, and one of the greatest motorsports event you can see. Fifty-two drivers and their crew had spent close to a month preparing for the annual time-attack hill climb near Colorado Springs.
History. Racing in the Pikes Peak Region included 19th century horse tracks (e.g., to the west of Colorado Springs' Palmer House along Fountain Creek by 1882 and to the north by 1903, the " Roswell Racing Park "), and the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb started in 1916 on the 1915 Pikes Peak Highway.

The space needed for equipment and materials related to the construction of the new Pikes Peak Summit Complex has greatly reduced the parking capacity on the summit of Pikes Peak. As such, Pikes Peak administration has implemented a free shuttle service to take visitors to the summit.
This Sunday, for the 100th time, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will host its famous race up America's Mountain. The event is the second-oldest auto race in the country, behind only the Indianapolis 500. Naturally, it has changed a bit over the last 107 years.
But following the 2005 season, Pike's Peak International Raceway was sold to International Speedway Corporation (ISC), which is a subsidiary of NASCAR. ISC chose to shut the track down and if I'm not mistaken – they even went so far as to dismantle the grandstands.

From the summit's various viewing areas, you'll absolutely want to snap photos of Pikes Peak's incredible scenery. On the clearest days, you can see five states (Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Kansas) and even the curvature of the earth fading into the distance.
Unless you're acclimated to this altitude, you're bound to feel the effects. The air is thin at the summit and holds about 60% of the oxygen your body is used to. What is this? Prepare to feel out of breath as soon as you get out of your car.
The tollgate to the Pikes Peak Highway is only a quarter mile ahead. When you pull into one of the lanes at the gate, friendly rangers will greet you, accept your toll fees (cash and credit cards accepted), and provide you with a printed map and brochure.
Big Foot Crossing Sign on the Pikes Peak Highway. Once you return to the highway, you’ll soon enter the Pike National Forest. Keep your eyes focused on the right side of the highway just after Mile Marker 3 so you don’t miss the Big Foot Crossing sign.

As such, Pikes Peak administration has implemented a free shuttle service to take visitors to the summit. Parking for the shuttle is staged at Mile Marker 7 (just after Crystal Reservoir) and at Mile Marker 16 (Devil’s Playground). The shuttle is expected to run from May to September.
Previously, most of your views have been of the north side of Pikes Peak. However, now you can view the south and southwest side of the mountain. And, if you look closely, you might be able to catch a glimpse of the Summit House from several spots in the miles ahead.
