what is the geosystem course

by Marquis Pouros 3 min read

Geosystems is mainly an Earth science and students who take it will learn about geography that deals with the natural features of the Earth's surface. Physics, on the other hand, is a branch of science that is concerned with the nature and properties of matter and energy.Feb 27, 2013

What do you do in Geosystems?

Geosystems engineers and hydrogeologists combine engineering and geology to solve real-world problems such as restoring underground aquifers which are important sources of drinking water. As a geosystems engineer you could address the world's most pressing energy, water resource, and environmental concerns.

What are Geosystems engineering and hydrogeology?

Geosystems engineers and hydrogeologists are concerned with the development and use of engineering approaches in the management of natural resources from the earth's surface and subsurface, environmental restoration of subsurface sites, and other processes related to the earth sciences.

What is Geosystem engineering?

Geosystems engineers and hydrogeologists are concerned with the development and use of engineering approaches in the management of water resources in addition to oil and gas, as well as environmental restoration of contamination sites and other processes related to the subsurface.

What is Geosystems Core?

Highly regarded, best-selling author Robert Christopherson has partnered with renowned geographer and educator Stephen Cunha and longtime media author Charlie Thomsen to establish Geosystems Core, a brief, modular, highly visual and flexible textbook and springboard into physical ...

What is geoscience animation?

Geoscience Animations help students visualize the most challenging processes in the physical geosciences with schematic animations that include audio narration. Animations also have assignable multiple-choice quizzes with specific wrong answer feedback to help guide students toward mastery of these core physical process concepts.

What is mastering geography?

Mastering ® Geography is an online homework, tutorial, and assessment product proven to improve results by helping students quickly master physical geography concepts. Students benefit from self-paced coaching activities that feature personalized wrong-answer feedback and hints that emulate the office-hour experience and help keep students on track. With a wide range of interactive, engaging, and assignable activities, students are encouraged to actively learn and retain challenging course concepts. Learn more about Mastering Geography.

What is Christopherson's unique approach to Earth Systems?

Christopherson’s unique earth systems approach organizes the chapters around atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere, following the natural flow of energy, materials, and information to present topics in the same sequence in which they occur in nature.

How are key geographical concepts presented?

Key geographical concepts are presented as two-page modules that can stand on their own and be read in any order. Instructors can assign these flexible modules in whatever sequence best suits their course and teaching style. Each module in the text contains only the most essential content for any concept. The focused presentation prevents students from becoming lost in unnecessary detail.

What is GeoLab capstone?

Unique, two-page GeoLab capstone modules integrate a lab experience directly into the book without the need for a separate lab manual or lab section, enabling students to get hands-on with the data and tools of physical geography. Each GeoLab includes an online component in MasteringGeography that can be assigned and automatically graded.

Learning outcomes

The Course is addressed to provide the basic knowledge of petroleum systems and petroleum engineering, with special reference to exploration, drilling and production engineering. These topics represent strategic elements as far as world energy supply is concerned.

Course contents

Origin and geology of petroleum reservoirs. Resources and reserves; production and consumption. Overview of Exploration & Production industry (Upstream). Oil and gas exploration and drilling techniques. Petrophysical properties of petroleum reservoir rocks. Reservoir fluids distribution. Laboratory measurements and laboratory practice.

Teaching methods

Classroom lectures, laboratory practice (in small groups). The lectures will focus on general aspects of oil and gas industry (upstream sector). The lectures will be supplemented with practical exercises. The practical exercises will be carried out to produce practical solutions to the theoretical problems outlined during lectures.

Assessment methods

Students must sit a written and/or oral exam comprising of a series of questions that aim to ascertain students’ understanding of the theory of the technological and design principles presented during lectures, and a practical problem similar to the ones dealt with during the practical exercises related to the course lectures.
