Something is loading. Over the past two decades, Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia has bought up much of the land that borders its private grounds. According to The Wall Street Journal, Augusta National spent over $200 million purchasing over 100 properties covering 270 acres since 1999.
The Masters will turn a hearty, estimated profit of at least $30 million this year. However, that's just a portion of how much revenue Augusta National takes in from sales at the Masters. Golf Digest estimates Augusta National pulled in $115 million from the 2015 Masters.
One particularly radical change Augusta could make would be going with dark bunkers full-time, like the black coal slag “sand” favored by some courses in the northern U.S. (like Hawktree Golf Club in Bismarck, N.D.). But don’t hold your breath. 2. The greens are really green.
In exchange for a handshake-type relationship with its broadcast partners, Augusta National has total say over the tournament telecast. The club takes the annual profit and puts it back into facilities, including the construction of Berckmans, the world-class practice facility, land to expand facilities and more.

There are roughly 300 members of Augusta National, and being invited by one of them is the quickest way to get a round in at the famous course. Members are allowed to bring a guest on the course for a relatively small fee of $40.
In addition to the excellent food at Augusta National, $5 beer is one of the best deals at the Masters. While patrons aren't allowed to bring coolers or alcoholic beverages onto the grounds*, with such affordable prices, it's not a big deal.
While the Masters apparel and other goods are costly, the prices of hats (about $25 to $35), basic golf shirts ($69 to $79) and trendy pullovers and sweaters ($80 to $185) are comparable to what those items cost in the merchandise tents at other major golf championships.
According to Golf Week, there are a few ways to play at the course. And getting invited by a member is one of them. However, despite being a 5-time champion at the Masters, Tiger Woods doesn't have a membership at the Augusta. The other option for Charlie to play at the Augusta would be to become a volunteer.
Included in the membership are Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and billionaire Warren Buffett.
