Based on the success of the East Lake model, a new organization, Purpose Built Communities, was established in 2009 to help fight concentrated segments of poverty in communities throughout the United States. Today, Purpose Built Communities is present in 14 cities in the US.
In 1970, the East Lake Meadows public housing project was built on the site of the No. 2 golf course and became a center for poverty, drugs and violence. Middle-income homeowners fled the surrounding neighborhood, replaced by low-income renters.

The health, economic and social challenges of recent months have affected all of us in a variety of ways, but our ancient game that can’t be confined indoors has provided a much needed haven and release. As courses opened and grass began to green, bunker rakes disappeared and unusual objects appeared in holes.
There it was – a simple wooden sign indicating “Erin Hills” on the side of a county road in rural Wisconsin. It was dusk on a windy September evening as my father and I drove up the long winding road towards the clubhouse, golden hour hitting the fescue, making the golf course look even more incredible than I remembered.
Conduct a sales search. Records of recent property sales are typically filed with the property appraiser's office, as well as the Clerk of Courts in the county where the business is located. The property appraiser will have a list of all sales by address. The Clerk of Courts has recorded documents such as deeds and mortgages.
Check local licenses. Contact the local licensing authority, which is likely at your city hall or county building inspector's office. Ask for public records on licenses issued for the address where the construction is underway. You will find building permits, as well as business licenses, which should indicate the type of company being constructed.
Speak with the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce is the front door to the community. Many businesses seek out the Chamber when planning to relocate their company or start a new venture. Call or visit your local Chamber office and ask for any details they may have about the business.
Call your elected representative. A phone call to your city council representative or county commissioner may answer your questions about the type of business coming to your neighborhood.
Speak to a real estate broker. Call a local real estate broker near your neighborhood and ask what she knows about the new business. Real estate professionals tend to stay abreast of new developments; even if the real estate professional did not make the sale on this property, she likely knows who did.
Develop a habitat restoration plan for 230-acres of the former Roddy Ranch Golf Course. Restore the highly impacted site, once filled with non-native vegetation, to a more natural environment.

Native people have lived in eastern Contra Costa County for millennia, subsisting on and caring for a landscape of seasonal streams, Delta waters, open grasslands, and wooded foothills. At the time of Spanish contact in the late 18th century, nearby Bay Miwok-speaking tribes included the Julpun, Ompin, and Volvon peoples.
In March 2020, the Park District hired Restoration Design Group to take the lead on developing the habitat and public access plan. They will be conducting site surveys, environmental studies, and other background research at the former golf course over the next 18 months.

Montegue had learned about golf in Scotland and decided to build his own golf course right outside of his home, which served as the Oakhurst Links Clubhouse for many years. The first competition at Oakhurst was held in 1888. Although Oakhurst is the oldest golf course, it has not been in continuous operation.
The course slowly evolved over the years and today, there are 27 holes called the Clyde, Squirrel and Primrose nines.

The Foxburg Country Club is another golf club that’s brought up any time there is a discussion over which golf course is the oldest in America. The club’s founder was Joseph Mickle Fox, a descendant of the land and oil rich Fox family from Philadelphia.
The new Chicago Golf Club course hosted the 1897, 1900 and 1911 U.S. Opens, the 1897, 1905, 1909 and 1912 U.S. Amateurs and the 1903 U.S. Women’s Amateur. The Chicago Golf Club is still going strong today and considers itself the first 18-hole golf course in America.
The Quogue Field Club is an old private golf course in New York, which dates back to 1901. However, the club was founded in 1887 , but they did not initially play golf. A rough 9-hole course was laid out in 1896 by RB Wilson, who has head pro at nearby Shinnecock Hills.
The Chicago Golf Club continued to play golf at the Downers Grove course until 1895, when it moved to a new course built again by MacDonald in nearby Wheaton, Illinois. After this, the golf course was passed around to different owners before it was purchased by the Downers Grove Park District in 1968.
Oakhurst Links was designed and built in 1984 by a man named Russell Montegue and his friends.
He retired as the company's chairman in November 2015. He currently resides in Arrowtown and was Ernst & Young 's 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year in New Zealand.
On 13 May 1979, Hill opened his own jewellery store nearby, calling it Michael Hill Jeweller. One of his main points of difference was to limit his store's product range to jewellery items, dispensing with silverware, clocks, porcelain and glassware commonly found in other jewellery stores at the time.
The clubhouse won the New Zealand Institute of Architects Supreme Architectural Award in 2008 and was a finalist in the World Architecture Festival in 2008 in Barcelona. The course is notable for the sculpture which makes much of the course into an open-air gallery.
Books. Hill has had three books published about succeeding in business. The books use stories from his own life to illustrate his points about achieving success. HELLO – Michael Hill Jeweller was published by Penguin Books in 1994.
