A force add is when a department adds a student to a course if he/she isn't able to do so on their own due to a prerequisite error, time conflict, or the class size being at full capacity. Force add requests must be done through the department offering the course.
A common reason for a force add is unprocessed transfer credit for pre-requisite courses students have taken at other institutions. Force-adds will not be considered for instructor preference or time convenience.
Force-add requests for undergraduate CS courses may only be requested via the online form linked below. Students should not email instructors to force-add a course and cannot force-add a course by attending class during the first week. Graduating seniors must enter force-add requests as soon as possible.
No force-adds are accepted for courses that are full, monitor the Timetable of Classes. No force-adds are accepted if the pre-requisites are not met; email Betty Higginbotham ( higgvt@vt.edu) with questions.
The ISE department cannot force-add classes non-ISE courses, with the exception of STAT 4706. * Please contact the department of the course you wish to force-add. Every effort will be made to process your request in a timely manner.

Submitting a force-add request is not a guarantee that the student will be added to a course. There are a variety of factors that go into the decision for a force-add request.
Please note that instructors cannot override force/add decisions made by the department, so please do not approach your instructor for special permission to get into their course. If you have questions about a force/add request, CS majors or minors should contact their CS academic advisor.
To force add a BC course to your schedule, please use the force add link provided. Please read the instructions carefully. A force add request does not guarantee placement in the course. Please do not submit multiple requests for the same class. Incomplete forms will not be processed. The BC department can only force add BC classes.
Contact the home department of the course in which you wish to force add. If you need an outside course force added then you must follow the procedures for that specific department. Check the department's website as different policies exist throughout campus. (e.g., if it is a PHYS class, contact the Physics department).
Students who were originally denied a Registration Override Request may contact the Department and request a reconsideration.
The Farmer School of Business uses the Registration Override Request (ROR) application. Students will access ROR from the Course List for all FSB courses.
All force add decisions are made by the departments via the force add process; individual faculty do not make force add decisions.
Departments should only be contacted if you would like to be reconsidered for a Registration Override Request, or for questions regarding your specific request.
