The DET (Diploma in Education and Training) has replaced the DTLLS qualification. The Diploma in Education and Training (Or level 5 Diploma in Education and Training) is the recognised teaching qualification for the post-16 sector.
This course is ideal for anyone currently in a teaching role looking to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or simply improve their teaching skills. You do not need to have completed the level 3 or level 4 courses to enrol on the level 5 DET.

No, the main benefit of the DET course is that it does not require a previous degree qualification. You can have any NVQ, QCF, RQF qualification in your subject area and do this DET course. However, studying the PGCE without a degree in your subject area isn’t possible.

This Level 5 education diploma is equivalent to but different from the PGCE teacher training, which we do not offer. Both courses can qualify you to achieve QTLS. The Diploma in Education and Training (DET) is the current name for the DTLLS qualification. Technically, the DTLLS doesn’t exist anymore, but the names are often used interchangeably.
There are approximately 1200 hours of study time required for this course. Most learners will take between 8-12 months to earn their qualification. The DET can be completed online on your own schedule, but do note that the course requires a minimum of 100 hours of teaching practice and to be observed 8 times in the classroom.
