OVERVIEW FOR THE ROLE OF CLERK OF COURSE •Responsible for organizing and marshaling the swimmers on deck, seeding or reseeding heats and if instructed by the Referee, may combine heats where there are empty lanes.
Clerk of Course Description Clerk of Course (Certified): The individuals for the Clerk of Course work together to get the swimmers seeded in heats and lanes. All classifications of swimmers may be combined to fill the heats. Individual swimmers will be placed according to seed time, fastest to slowest in lane groups 3&4, 2&5, 1&6.
CLERK OF COURSE: Responsible for lining up the swimmers by event, heat and lane and getting them to the starting blocks in the correct order and on time. Assigned to work for one half of the meet. This job gives you the chance to see your swimmer immediately before his/her event. This position is not recommended for parents new to swim team.

RUNNER: Responsible for obtaining the completed event cards and DQ forms for each race from the timers and judges. The cards and DQ forms are delivered to the scoring table. The job title is very descriptive. Runners should have good tennis shoes that work well on slippery wet surfaces.

To train as a referee, an individual must first have been certified as a starter for a minimum of one year, and must be recommended for advancement by the regional officials chairperson. If you enjoy lots of contact with the swimmers and have good organizational skills, the clerk of course position may be for you.
Marshal Job Duties You are the safety representatives of USA Swimming on deck. Your presence on deck, and your attention to safety, helps your club maintain the protection of USA Swimming insurance within the meet venue for the duration of the meet. place to visit and not a place to play.
Hospitality: The Hospitality room is a separate room located in the facility where meals and snacks are provided to Coaches and Officials. Volunteers in Hospitality work together to plan and prepare the food served.
