This certificate program is primarily intended for individuals who wish to increase their knowledge and skills in Electrical Engineering either for future career opportunities or in preparation for graduate studies. This certificate provides the opportunity for students to take Master’s degree courses without the commitment of undertaking a full Master’s degree.
Topics include professional and ethical responsibilities, risks and liabilities, intellectual property, and privacy. Economic issues including entrepreneurship and globalization.
Primary topics include static electric and magnetic fields, Maxwell's equations and force laws, wave propagation, reflection and refraction of plane waves, transient and steady-state behavior of waves on transmission lines. Restriction: EE and CPE Majors Only.
A minimum of at least 21 credit hours of ECE courses: 18 credit hours must be graded and 3 credit hours of 600 level courses may be taken for credit only (S/U). These must be NC
Degrees are conferred by NC State University at the end of the fall and spring semesters and at the end of the second summer session. Formal commencement exercises are held at the end of the fall and spring semesters, but any student who graduated the preceding second summer session is eligible to participate in the fall commencement exercises.
Graded courses are 500 or 700 level courses in which letter grades, ranging from “A+” through “F” are given; they cannot be taken for “credit only.” Credit Only courses are 600 and 800 level courses in which a Satisfactory (S) or Unsatisfactory (U) grade is given.

If you have a high degree of curiosity and self-confidence, have a strong work ethic, are self-motivated and willing to think for yourself, and have the patience to work on something that may take a year or two to bear fruit, those are good signs.
Students planning to continue for a Ph.D. should discuss the option selected with their advisors. A minimum of 31 credit hours is required for all students.
At least 3 credits of the minimum 31 credits required for graduation should be 700-level courses. Subject to approval by the student’s advisor, other courses from the pool of CSC and ECE courses not listed in the four tracks and also courses from other departments can be taken.
