When you complete your college applications, you may need to list whether you took any regents classes. Though not available in all states, a regents level course is actually a type of exam that covers a specific subject area and shows if you have enough knowledge in that area to succeed in similar classes in college.
Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors. To earn a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors, a student needs to have a computed average score of 90 or higher on all Regents examinations required for the Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation (no rounding up is permitted).
The Regents are not used for college placement. If you get an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors (an average of 90 or more in your many academic Regents courses) you may get a couple of bucks from a SUNY or CUNY (money is money but it is not much).
The Advance Regents Diploma shows you did more than the minimum to graduate high school. These students take tougher course, tend to enjoy learning and be more motivated. Many colleges and universities, especially in New York, give preference to students with an Advance Regents Diploma.

The NYS Board of Regents has allowed districts to determine how they wish to calculate the high stakes Regents exams into the student GPA. As stated in an NYSED memo, NYSED “does NOT require OR RECOMMEND that schools use Regents examination grades as part of the calculation of the student's final average.”
In some school districts, the grade received on the Regents Exam will replace a quarterly grade, if doing so will benefit the student's grade point average. Some school districts are even adding points on to the overall grade point average if the student achieves a target score on the Regents Exam.
The Geometry Regents test is not considered difficult to pass, although some of the concepts covered in the exam might be difficult, depending on the student. The difficulty level also depends on the score you are attempting to achieve and your reasons for taking the exam.
The tougher one, called a Regents diploma, requires scores of at least 65 (out of 100) on five Regents exams: in English, math, science, global history and United States history. The other type, called a local diploma, requires a 65 on three of those tests, and a 55 on the other two.
