Bush signed H.R. 218, The Law Enforcement Officer’s Safety Act of 2004, which exempts qualified active and retired law enforcement officers from state laws that prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms. The Metropolitan Police Department Security Officers Management Branch has implemented a re-qualification course for retired Metropolitan Police and Law Enforcement Officers. This is a mandatory course that must be taken in compliance with H.R. 218.
