Your number one responsibility as a Course Marshal is to ensure the runners have a safe run and ensure that no vehicular traffic (other than official vehicles) enters the course. You will be placed at specific locations on the course that are key for the race. Please keep a watchful eye on traffic and cheer on the runners as they go by.
Course marshals are stationed at key locations along that course to warn riders of hazards, direct riders along the course, monitor for course and rider safety, ensure fair play, motivate the athletes, and manage non-race pedestrian/bike traffic at points where race course crosses another route.

Runners must be 18 years old on the day of the Marathon; 15 years old on the day of the Half Marathon (with parent/guardian signature). Age requirements are based on regulations by IMMDA-International Marathon Medical Directors Association.
There is no bag check for the Marshall University Marathon due to liability concerns. The start and finish line are separated by mere yards. We apologize for any inconvenience. The parking lot is next to both start and finish lines.
Start time for all events is 7:00 a.m. with the exception of the 5k. The start time for the 5k is 7:15 a.m.
All full marathon registrants (those participating in the full 26.2 mile race) who enter by August 31st will get a Gender specific quarter-zip jacket or pullover half-zip!! If you are a lady and requesting either a unisex jacket or shirt please take into consideration the size difference. Women who pre-register prior to September 1st will have the option of requesting a women’s cut jacket and/or shirt. All entries after September 1st will receive unisex shirts. October 1st is the deadline to guarantee shirt and shirt size.
Runners start on 3rd Avenue next to Joan C. Edward Stadium and run through downtown Huntington past Pullman Square, next to the Ohio River, and through Ritter Park among other places. The highlight is to run through Marshall University campus on their way to a goal-line finish in Marshall Football Stadium.
