What are Moguls? Moguls are bumps that you'll find on some groomed slopes at downhill ski areas. They can be constructed purposely by the ski area, but more often they form naturally as skiers carve turns down a slope.
Tips: The front end of the skis. Travelator/Magic Carpet: A conveyor-belt like lift where you stand on the lift and it carries you to the top of the slope. Usually found on beginner slopes and children's areas. Traverse: Skiing across a slope in a zigzag pattern rather than straight down.
Moguls: Mounds of snow, also known as bumps.
The major alpine ski races The Alpine World Ski Championships are held every two years and reward the best skiers in six events: Downhill, Super G, Giant Slalom, Slalom and Combined and a Mixed Nations Team Event. Finally, alpine skiing has been an Olympic sport since 1936.
All Mountain Skis—Skis designed to perform well in a variety of snow conditions over the whole mountain. Alpine Skiing—Commonly known as downhill skiing. Uses stiff-cambered skis, hard-shell boots and fixed-heel, releasable bindings.
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing (cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings.
Corn refers to the snow during the time window when it has become soft and forgiving, but not too wet and slushy. In other words, it's the “Goldilocks” of snow—not too hard, not too soft, but just right.Sep 18, 2014

Alpine skis are divided in four categories: slope skis, all-mountain, freeride and backcountry. These four families are defined by the width of their waist, i.e. the area under the binding, in millimeters, their flex and what they're made of! Each type of ski behaves differently according to the terrain.
The general rules for setting the poles are: *if the gate is made of two poles then the gate width must be from 4 to 6 meters. *consecutive gates must alternate in blue and red.
Gate in Downhill, Super G, and Giant Slalom consists of four slalom poles and two gate panels. Two poles hold each gate panel. The skier has to cross an imaginary line that connects the two gates. Downhill, Super G, Giant Slalom Gates. The difference is in the width of the gates.
Horizontal and Vertical Gates. There are several possible combinations of gates and turning poles. There are horizontal (also called open) gates and vertical (also called closed or delay) gates. Horizontal gates are usually placed at the start (the first gate) and at the finish (the last gate) of the course.
At 4,415 metres, the Lauberhorn downhill is the longest on the FIS World Cup tour. Not only does it take over two-and-a-half minutes to ski, it is also the track with the fastest recorded speeds, including the unofficial record of 161.9 km/h, set by Frenchman Johan Clarey in January 2013.
When it comes to amazing views, the ladies’ Wengen is Cortina d’Ampezzo. Located within the Dolomites Unesco cultural heritage site, Cortina’ s downhill starts in front of the three-peaked Tofane and immediately falls off the insanely steep Tofanaschuss, next to sharp-edged cliffs. The Olimpia track is where legendary Toni Sailer won gold in the men’s downhill at the 1956 Games.
The FIS World Cup downhill slopes in race condition are not doable for normal skiers – not even for advanced skiers. Typically, their surface shines in pure ice as opposed to snow, and losing your edge means you’re up for a long, terrifyingly swift slide into the safety nets.
