Inside the rich text editor, highlight the title of the navigation block that you want to create a link. Click on the link icon in the Rich Content Editor (RCE) menu and choose Course Links in the menu dropdown. A flyout menu appears on the right with various course pages, assignments, module links, etc. to choose from.
When you add a tool to your course menu, you are in effect creating a shortcut to the tool. Make sure Edit Mode is ON. Click the (plus sign) icon above the Course Menu. Select the Tool Link. Enter a Name for the link. From the Type drop-down list, select the tool to add. Select whether the tool will be Available to Users. Click Submit.

Design Tools has a pre-formatted block of content called a Teacher & TA Details block that includes the profile picture and information of anyone assigned to the course as an instructor or teacher assistant. This block is customizable to include only certain instructors and/or TAs. The specific instructor/TA information is also customizable for the course. This block appears on a course page like this:

Custom navigation menus, like those often used in nonlinear courses, can permit learners to jump around the course as they choose. But moving beyond traditional menu navigation means course designers need to think more like UI designers.
Icons and graphics are another popular approach to course menus. When used consistently, visual buttons can remove the need for on-screen button labels. If you’re looking for tips on building your own icons, check out last week’s icon e-learning challenge.
Tabs Navigation. Tabs are the most popular type of menu navigation we see in courses. They’re highly customizable and can be created using a variety of shapes and styles. If you go with a tabs menu, please cross-post in the tabs challenge.
Similar to the icon-based navigation, map themes are a creative alternative to text-based menus. Nicola shared a branching example based on a village illustration.
You can design any kind of menu navigation you like. The focus this week is more on navigation ideas and concepts. Don’t worry about putting together a highly polished menu or interaction.
Adding items to a module is a simple as clicking the Plus button in the top-right corner of the module.
You can organize modules in a variety of ways. Often instructors will organize modules based on specific periods of time (one week of coursework, for example) or based on course topics/themes. When designing your module, be sure you organize material in a way that will move the students through the material in a logical way.
You can use text headers to further organize material within a module. For example, you may wish to organize material by topic or material type.
Indenting items in a module allows you to further organize your module content. For example, some instructors like to create an Overview Page in their module and then indent items below the overview. You may also wish to indent items below a text header.
To view all links and files available in course and user files, click the Link Options arrow [1] and select the Course Links option [2].
To view course files, click the Course Files link [1] . To view your user files, click the My Files link [2]. If using the Rich Content Editor within a group, you can select a group file by clicking the Group Files link [3].
To view the Keyboard Shortcuts menu, click the Keyboard icon or press ALT+F8 (PC keyboard) or ALT+FN+F8 (Mac keyboard).
You can use the Rich Content Editor to insert hyperlinks to document, image, and media files stored in your course files, group files, and to your user files.
If you set a file as not visible to students in Course Files and link to that file in the Rich Content Editor, students will be able to view that file using the link in the Rich Content Editor.
What you may notice is that at the bottom right hand corner of the page, there is an icon that looks like four dots on top of each in two-dot rows. When you click on this, you will be able to edit HTML, as shown below:

Failure is a given since they often don’t know realize that the HTML editors in those LMSs are light weight. If you want to get some real editing done, you’re going to need an HTML editor. These editors are available and you can be successful without spending a lot of time.

Please, don’t pull your hair out or fling your computer across the room. Editing HTML code in Canvas or Schoology can be a pain. But if you rely on free HTML editors available online, it’s a breeze. Give it a shot!
As you can see below, Schoology is about as helpful as Canvas: You can copy the code (and I’m going to simply reuse the code I edited earlier), and paste it into the HTML code view: When I switch back from code view to the rich text editor, it looks exactly as intended:
Modules & Accessing ContentClick on the "Courses" option in your left navigation menu and select your course. This will take you to the "Home" page within your course. Next, select the "Modules" option on your course menu (the "modules" page is nearly identical to the "home" page). Each chapter is represented in its own respective module (unless changes are made by your instructor). Within a chapter module, you will see each chapter section/learning objective, applicable assignment (s), and an adaptive practice activity. You can also use the "Save for Later" button on the bottom left to save your answer (s) without using an attempt. If enabled by the instructor, question assistance options will be available just below the question content (eTextbook, hint, etc...).
Assignment PoliciesWhen accessing an assignment, select "open" to launch the assignment in a new tab. You will then be able to see an overview of the assignment details (including number of questions and points). If you're already in the assignment and want to return to the overview page, simply click on the arrow on the top left of the screen next to the name of the assignment. On the lower portion of this page allows you to review an "Overview" of the assignment (including chapters covered and policies). There is also the ability to review your performance on individual questions (pending instructor preferences).On the assignment "Overview" screen, locate the "Assignment Policies" area. Account SettingsIn the account area, click on the "Settings" option. To make a modification, select "Edit settings" to the right. Here, you can ensure your personal time zone setting is accurate and translates to the time zone of the course.
Content PlayerWithin the "Learning Hub," there are four areas of content in a chapter section: Learning Hub, Resources, Practice and Explore . The "Learning Hub" is where you can see a breakdown of what is included in the particular Learning Objective, related content and a descriptive summary. The Resources area displays all related resources for the entire chapter section. The Practice section allows students to answer a few optional questions and help them check their understanding of the content. Last, the Explore section is where students can access all related content for the entire chapter and course.In the top of the "Explore" area, you can filter the type of resource you want to view.
