Departments may restrict the repetition of a course if it is a prerequisite to a course the student has already completed with a grade of C– or better. The notation for an approved second repeat appears in the comments section at the end of the transcript.
Repeated course units excluded in a student’s GPA is removed from the number of units attempted, as well as balance points so in computing the GPA, only the grade and corresponding grade points earned the second time a course is taken are used.

The second grade always replaces the first grade. However, you can retake a class and get a worse grade. For example, if you have a D (a passing grade) and retake a course and receive an F (a failing grade), you now have a failing grade in the course and will have to take the class for a third time.
You can replace your grade through a grade appeal if you have a clear, valid reason why your grade is incorrect. School policies vary significantly, with some schools allowing students to question a professor's subjective judgment, and other schools only allowing for corrections due to clear error.
A GPA of 2.0 of higher in the major is required for graduation.
E – A grade indicating that the student has been excused by the Assistant Principal for Student Services. X – A grade that carries no credit indicating that a student has an opportunity to secure a passing grade by doing satisfactory work during the subsequent ten-week period.
A minimum grade of C- is required for a pass at the undergraduate level, and a minimum grade of B- is required for a pass if the student intends to use the credit toward a graduate degree (e.g., in 4+1 programs).
While the main goal is to avoid failing a class in college, it could happen. Even if you do fail, you can retake the class and ask for help. Although it will negatively impact your GPA and could affect your financial obligations, you can bounce back.

What is a Course Repeat (a.k.a. Grade Forgiveness)? Also known as Grade Forgiveness, a course repeat is the repetition of a course for the sake of improving upon an earlier unsatisfactory performance in which the new grade replaces the old grade in the calculation of the grade point average (GPA).
It depends on how many quality points they earn for each grade. If the D is in a 1-credit-hour course, the student will earn a 3.76 GPA. If the A is in a 1-credit-hour course, they will earn a 3.3 GPA. Same grades, same total number of credit hours, but different weights based on the credit hours of the course.
A normal undergraduate course load in a semester is 15-18 hours. Undergraduate students who wish to register for more than 18 semester credit hours must receive approval from either 1) the chair of their academic department, or 2) the Director of Academic Advisement if they are assigned to the Academic Advisement Center. A student may be approved to register for more than 18 hours only if: 1) he or she has a Regents’ GPA of 3.0 with at least 15 credit hours taken at Augusta University, or 2) he or she is within 30 hours of graduation, or 3) the student is granted permission by his/her dean.
Undergraduate students at Augusta University are classified as follows, based on the number of academic credit hours earned: Freshman, less than 30 hours; Sophomore 30-59 hours; Junior 60-89 hours; Senior 90 or more hours. The classification under which a student registers at the beginning of each academic semester will continue throughout the academic term. This policy does not apply to post-baccalaureate students.
Augusta University believes it is important to recognize the superior academic performance of undergraduate and Dental College of Georgia students by awarding them Dean’s List designation for a given semester according to the conditions set forth in this policy.
A transient student is defined as a degree candidate at Augusta University who is granted the privilege of temporary registration at another institution and will not be enrolled at Augusta University during that period of temporary registration. A cross-registered student is defined as a degree candidate at Augusta University who is granted the privilege of enrolling at both Augusta University and another institution during a semester.
A student holding a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university who wishes to work for another degree must complete the minimum residence requirements of the university (30 hours of course work in courses numbered 3000 or above with an average grade of C or better) with at least 30 hours of resident credit in excess of the requirement for the original degree. In addition, he or she must complete the exact requirements of major courses, allied fields, mathematics and foreign languages.
For undergraduate students, only specifically designated Augusta University courses may be repeated for credit toward graduation and/or program completion. In any other course, a student taking that course forfeits the credit/grade earned in any previous attempt in the course, and is granted only the credit/grade earned in the latest attempt.#N#With the exception of such courses as Wellness (WELL) activity courses, “Selected Topics” courses, and other courses specifically designed for repetition and designated as such in the General Catalog, by registering for a course for which credit has already been received a student forfeits credit toward graduation in the previous attempt in the course. The final grade for graduation purposes will be the grade in the repeated course. However, all hours attempted and grades earned will appear on the transcript and will be used in computing the resulting institutional grade point average. You have passed the course with a D- or higher grade. You can attempt the course one additional time. This repeat limit applies even if on your second attempt you earn a failing grade (F) or earn a grade that is lower than what is required for your degree program (earned a C-, but a C or better is required).
