Hunters under 12-years old or hunters who have not completed a hunter education course for firearms or bowhunting can purchase a one-time Apprentice Hunter Education Exemption certificate. A legally licensed adult 19 years old or older who successfully completed a hunter education course must accompany hunters with the exemption certificate.
Hunter education in Colorado became mandatory in 1970, and hunters who were 21 or older that year were exempt. ANYONE in possession of a firearm MUST have a PAL or POL(if still valid meaning unexpired). To NOT do so leaves one open to a criminal charge of "unlawful possession of a firearm".
