This learning book is divided into 12 themed chapters. It covers speaking, listening, reading, and writing to cultivate overall language ability. This book is perfect for self-study Japanese.
The textbook is divided into two volumes, containing 23 lessons focusing on Japanese grammar, vocabulary, and kanji. It is used in many universities throughout the English-speaking world and also is often used as a self-study text.
Genki One is one of the most recognized, beginner Japanese textbooks for a reason. It's extremely effective.

After finishing GENKI, learners can start studying at the intermediate level. After Genki 2, a third volume in the series for the Chukyu (Intermediate) level goes by the name An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese without bearing the name Genki.
Genki is not for: Genki is meant for people who want a foundation for becoming fluent in Japanese. If you want useful words for your vacation in Japan, Genki won't teach the words you'll need in a short enough study time. It's designed for university classrooms.
“Genki” Probably the most popular beginner option for learning Japanese, “Genki” books I and II have been around for years and are firm favorites in college “Introduction to Japanese” courses.
"Minna no nihongo" is more focused on grammar points and covers them more than "Genki". Thus, it is probably more friendly textbook to autodidacts. However, all the explanations are in a separate book, so it may not be as convenient as "Genki".
If Genki is already thorough, Minna no Nihongo pushes you even further. It can be offputting at first but you will get good results if you commit to it. However, it would be a mistake to think that it is harder to study using Minna no Nihongo rather than Genki: the approach is different.
Undoubtedly, Minna no Nihongo is enough for N5. This is because this book covers different topics that help you learn the kanji, grammar, and vocabulary that you need to pass the exam. In fact, studying half of the book (this will cover about 13 chapters) should be enough to pass the JLPT N5.
If your Japanese studies up until this point have been mostly informal, we recommend using the two “Genki” textbooks before beginning “Tobira” or “An Integrated Approach.” Though a combination of the “Genki” books with either “Tobira” or “An Integrated Approach” will give you all the kanji you need for the N3.
In a nutshell, Genki 2 is for JLPT N4 because its lesson structure has everything that you need to pass N4. Therefore, if you are preparing to take the JLPT N4, Genki 2 is one of the most reliable resources that you can always rely on.
After Genki II, some students progress to the “Tobira” series, some progress to a textbook called simply “An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese,” and some progress to other books.
