Harry followed Tom to England in the spring of 1890, taking a job as greenkeeper at age 20, at Studley Royal Golf Club, Ripon, Yorks. A year later he became club professional at Bury Golf Club and in 1896 the club professional at Ganton Golf Club, in Yorkshire. Harry was the better player of the two brothers.

In early years school holidays were spent caddying at the local course and he himself soon became adept at the game.

Francis DeSales Ouimet (May 8, 1893 – September 2, 1967) was an American amateur golfer who is frequently referred to as the "father of amateur golf" in the United States. He won the U.S. Open in 1913 and was the first non-Briton elected Captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
Lowery was one of the pallbearers at Ouimet's funeral when he died in 1967. Lowery died in 1984 in California and in 1998 his widow, Margaret, endowed a Ouimet scholarship in his name for the scholar who is considered the best and most dedicated caddie.Jun 6, 2013

Vardon had great rivalries with James Braid and J.H. Taylor, who each won five Open Championships; together the three formed the 'Great Triumvirate', and dominated worldwide golf from the mid-1890s to the mid-1910s. These rivalries enormously increased the public's interest in golf.

Here is some video of the great Harry Vardon, he had a very unusual swing. He did not keep a straight left arm at all. This increased his clubhead speed tremendously. To my eyes it is a really shallow/upwards strike on the drive.
