Shadow Creek Golf Club has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years. A delightful track that features elements of both links and parkland courses, Shadow Creek meanders through pines and rolling greens. The golf course features a convenient 250+ yard practice area which also features grass tees, practice bunkers, and practice greens.
The Palms Course at Oakdale is a flat course that is perfect for walking. Despite the lack of hilly terrain, the course is well guarded by water that is in play on 8 different holes. It is a par-72 course, but the length is very manageable; a round played from the longest tees is only 6,268 yards. The Palms is known for its friendly atmosphere.
The Country Club of South Carolina boasts the largest practice facility in Florence and has hosted several PGA-sanctioned tournaments. This course is challenging at just over 7,000 yards. Highlights include perfectly manicured fairways and greens that are tucked between dogwoods and azaleas.
The Traces Golf Club features 27 holes of championship golf divided into 3 exciting 9-hole layouts. Each 9-hole course has its own name (Meadows, Creekside and Woodlands) and attributes that are unique to them. The Traces has an agronomy staff that is dedicated to keeping the 3 courses in excellent playing condition.
The second course, the Schoolmaster (named for President Woodrow Wilson who was responsible for getting Wilson Dam built and was also known as "The Schoolmaster" of politics), opened in the Summer of 2005.
The Fighting Joe is long, really long, and this links style course is simply good straight-forward golf. Some say the spectacular 17th hole is the signature hole on the course, but the 18th green overlooking the Tennessee River will distract you with its beauty, if not its treachery.
