Daly's prospects for a successful return to pro golf are not good. He is ranked 655 in the Official World Golf Rankings. He has a long list of talented golfers ranked above him who are also striving for success on the tour.
Playing the par-3 seventh hole, Daly pushed his tee shot right, splashing it into nearby Lake Michigan. He took a drop and again found the lake. He dropped another, and splashed that one, too. Finally, Daly bailed out to the left side of the green, then helicopter-tossed his iron into the lake.
According to PGA Tour officials, Daly's 17 double-digit scores rank first on the list of current players; Robert Gamez is second with five. Told that Rory McIlroy threw a club once at Doral, Daly remarked, "I've got him beat by about 180 throws.".
This is, of course, not the first time Daly has carded a big number. In fact, it marks the 17th time that Daly has posted a double-digit total on a single hole in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. His most recent was a 12 that occurred during last year's Valspar Championship.
