An "AU" indicates that the student is auditing. Audited coursework carries attempted hours but no quality points, no quality hours, and no earned hours, and carries full fees and tuition (tuition does not apply to 60+ Tuition Exemption Program students).
It does not appear on a transcript. A “W” is not a grade. A “W” indicates that a course was started but not completed. The status indicator of "XX" added to a grade of "F" indicates that a student failed a course due to academic dishonesty.
Midterm Grades. While midterm grades are an important tool for monitoring academic progress, students and faculty should make use of a variety of metrics in continuously assessing academic performance in a course.
Requests for any change of grade should be initiated by the faculty member who assigned the grade. All requests must be adequately documented. Grades will not be changed for a student, once that student has graduated and the degree has been posted.
Transcript: An official transcript is a complete, chronological representation of a student’s academic record. It includes all courses attempted at Portland Community College, including those withdrawn from and those repeated. It also includes a summary of all transfer credits accepted by PCC.
P and NP grades are not included in the computation of a student’s GPA. If the default grade option for a course is A-F, and P/NP is available, students may change to the P/NP grade option by completing the official process prior to the withdrawal deadline.
Drops are available for any course that a student is officially registered for regardless of whether that course appears on an official transcript. A student may drop a registered class by completing the official drop process prior to the drop deadline.
PR. Assigned at the close of each semester or summer term in which the graduate student is enrolled in thesis (5950) or dissertation (6 950). No credit hours are shown when the grade of PR is assigned.
A non-punitive grade given only during the last one-fourth of a term/semester and only if a student: has justifiable and documented reason, beyond the control of the student (such as serious illness or military service), for not completing the work on schedule.

The Records and Registration Office is responsible for the maintenance of the educational records at the University of New Mexico. This includes, but is not limited to, student transcripts, academic folders and faculty grade reports. The following information refers to some of the policies and procedures for educational records.
The Social Security Number (SSN) is not the primary University identification number. The Banner ID/student ID number is the primary University identification number.
Current students may process a change of address or phone number for their academic records by using LoboWeb, Personal Information– Update My Information.
The student is responsible for obtaining the correct residency classification prior to the end of the second week of the semester. A student not classified as a New Mexico resident for tuition purposes is charged tuition as a non-resident. Refer to the Residency section below.
A student who enters and remains in this State principally to obtain an education is presumed to continue to reside outside this state, and such presumption continues in effect until rebutted by clear and convincing evidence of bona fide residence.
The Schedule of Classes is an official online publication of the Office of the Registrar. The publication includes course offerings, dates, times, and class locations. The schedule can be accessed at the Schedule Web site.
Payment of tuition and fees is required to complete registration. For specific information regarding tuition, fees, payment and payment deadline dates refer to the Bursar's Office Web site.
Registration in a class does not by itself guarantee a space in that class. An instructor may replace any student who without prior consent does not attend these class sessions:
Enrollment status is assigned by the Registrar’s office based upon several criteria that include number of registered units, exceptional courses, graduate assistantships and the class level of the program that the student is pursuing, e.g., undergraduate, master’s or doctoral. “Exceptional courses” are those courses that have been determined to fulfill full-time enrollment status, regardless of the number of registered units. These courses include 594 Master’s Thesis, 794 Doctoral Dissertation, GRSC 800 Studies for the Qualifying Examination as well as other courses and programs as determined by the Registrar. Only students pursuing a degree or university certificate program will be assigned an enrollment status. Auditors and visitors (limited standing) will not have an enrollment status assigned to them, regardless of the number of units or types of courses for which they have registered. Units taken for audit do not apply to enrollment status. Undergraduate students are considered full-time when enrolled for 12 or more units and half-time when enrolled for 6 or more units.
Doctoral students are considered full-time when enrolled in 6 or more units or registered in an exceptional course and half-time when enrolled in 3 or more units. Verification of student enrollment status is provided by the Office of Academic Records and Registrar.
A normal academic load is 16 units per semester for undergraduate students, 8 units (500-level) for graduate students. The university recommends that undergraduates register for no more than 18 units and graduates for no more than 16 units. Permission to enroll in more than 20 units requires written approval from the school or home department.
Students are permitted to take courses without having the specified prerequisites only upon obtaining the consent of the instructor. Students who enroll in a course for which they have not clearly satisfied the prerequisites or equivalent, or obtained the appropriate permission, may be dropped from the course. Deliberately false statements testifying to the satisfaction of prerequisites constitute a violation of the honor code. Students have the right to appeal a decision about prerequisites to the head of the department offering a course. Students should recognize that 3000 and 4000 level courses assume a certain level of academic maturity and general background regardless of the stated prerequisites. The course instructor can be consulted regarding the implications of this expectation for a specific course. Students must consult with the instructor if they wish to use the Pass/Fail option in a course for which they do not have the prerequisites.
A listing such as 3 (3) means that the course meets three hours each week and three credits are earned.
