The easiest way to arrange a dessert table is symmetrically. Put the cake in the back center of your table and elevate it so it is the tallest item. From there, arrange trays, apothecary jars, etc. on either side of the cake. Put taller items in the back, and flat trays in the front.
You must pre-pay for a table of six guests at $385 each. The first-floor Gallery tables allow you to book for parties of two or four for $285 to $355 per person. Gallery diners receive a 16- to 18-course tasting menu, and there are two seatings nightly.
First off all there is no tipping at Alinea. A 20% service charge is added to your bill... On top of everything but tax. It is mandatory.
Alinea will make accommodations for severe allergies, religious preferences, and major dietary restrictions (such as vegetarian, pescatarian, vegan) with at least a 72-hour notice. However, they will not accommodate aversions and dislikes.

The dress code at Alinea requires a jacket for gentlemen, with ties optional. Ladies should wear comparable attire; a dress, skirt or dress pants will do. Be sure you look the part for this once-in-a-lifetime meal.

Ideas for adding height: 1 Cake stands (they can hold anything — not just cake) 2 Tiered stands 3 Boxes or styrofoam blocks, wrapped in fabric or paper 4 Suitcases 5 Rustic crates 6 Wood boxes 7 Stack of books
Asymmetrical arrangements are great, too, but perhaps harder to achieve. You start with the (raised) cake off to one side or the other, and still need to achieve balance, but not in a mirrored fashion. Instead, put another tall item opposite the cake. Work in from your two tall items.
