CNC – Computer Numerical Control – originated back in the 1950s. Then, it was mechanical punch cards directing machine tools to take certain actions. Now, it is advanced computers and Computer Assisted Design programs that control tools capable of entire series of actions, tool changes, workpiece rotations, and countless other specific directions in the course of a single programmed operation.
They are often found being used by architects and designers, who use them to translate abstract designs on paper into real-world plans and instructions.
Although there are different “dialects” of g-code depending on the manufacturer of a particular machine, the principles are the same. G-code uses lines of command codes to tell a machine to turn on, to move the tool to a particular position, to power up the tool or cutting bit, to move exactly so far, and so on.
CNC programmers are responsible for programming cuts and shaping information into Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machines during the manufacturing process, precisely milling parts out of wood, metal, and other materials for applications as varied as artificial hips to airplanes to building construction.
Diploma programs for CNC machining are generally quite straightforward, able to be completed in a bit over a year, and focus heavily on the skills needed in real-world work environments.
Associate's degree programs generally accompany specific training towards a job with general education and take two years to complete. For CNC programmer training, the matching associate's degree might have a title like applied technical management and would cover everything a diploma program would.
Certificate programs that require previous work experience within the field of CNC machining are fairly common, are designed to enhance skills that workers may already have begun to develop, and can be completed in under a year.
These are two day courses but it will take years to become a skilled machinist.
These courses are for people who have little or no experience and the idea is to get you on the first rung of the ladder.
There are no filters. Engineering is still old school if you can do it you’ll more than likely get the job.
