A. The traditional Texas hunter education classroom course lasts about 14 hours and is usually given over the span of a weekend or several weeknights.
Bring your Temporary Hunter Education Certificate to the Field Day as proof of having completed the online course. Field Day fee: Texas charges a $15 student fee to participate in the Field Day. This fee must be paid to the instructor upon arrival at the Field Day, either in cash or as a money order.

The Online + Field Course has two parts: 1) FREE ONLINE COURSE (TPWD or NRA) completed beforehand, and 2) Field Course - 4 hours minimum. There is also an Online-only Course that is restricted to persons that are 17 years of age or older.
Every hunter (including out-of-state hunters) born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, must successfully complete a Hunter Education Course. Proof of certification or deferral is required to be on your person while hunting, either printed or electronically (including the Texas Outdoor Annual mobile app).
Youth under 17 years old are required to be under the immediate supervision of a permitted adult, at lease18 years old, who is licensed to hunt in Texas. Youth under 12 years old must remain within normal voice distance of an adult supervisor (direct supervision).

Activities at the Field day include live-fire exercises, a hunter skills trail with simulated hunting scenarios, a session on ethics, responsibilities and game laws, brief review of hunter safety topics, and a written final exam requiring an 80% to pass.
You must bring a copy of your Field Day Voucher and a piece of valid identification to your Field Day. Youth under the age of 15 who do not have their own ID must have a parent or guardian attend the Field Day activities, and sign a release on their behalf.
