According to a statement to The New York Times by his lawyer, convicted murderer Robert Durst has died in custody at the age of 78.
In April 2019, during Durst's trial, a transcript from the series revealed that Durst's final remarks had been edited and presented out of order.
Robert Durst, convicted murderer, eccentric scion of a New York real estate dynasty and subject of the HBO docuseries The Jinx, has died at the age of 78, less than three months after Durst was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2000 murder of his friend Susan Berman.
He mailed a note to police that simply said, “CADAVER” and included Berman's address. The envelope misspelled Beverly Hills as “Beverley.” Durst said he didn't remember the details of writing the note because he was in a fog after taking an opioid pain-reliever the night before for a migraine headache.
There hasn't been word of a second season for the popular docu-series, but the story continues past its original six episodes — the wealthy 72 year old was just arrested on first-degree murder charges for the murder of Berman that took place 15 years ago in Los Angeles.

In 2021 he was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Shortly thereafter New York officials charged Durst with murdering his first wife, who had been declared legally dead in 2017. However, Durst died in 2022, before that case could go to trial.
Unaware he was still being recorded, he muttered the phrase “killed them all, of course,” which many have taken as a confession. The note has also been a key part of the Los Angeles Police Department's investigations into Durst for nearly two decades.

As soon as someone picked up, it dawned on him that the call may be recorded and someone at the police station could recognize what Durst described as his “recognizable” voice. He decided to pen a note instead. The note was brief, including only Berman's address and the word “cadaver.”
