Chem 2 has much more problem-solving questions and gets more specific. A lot of people struggle with acid-base and kinetics in chem 2 but the problems become much easier with practice. Thanks for the A2A. Organic chemistry is harder than General Chemistry. It is not more math intensive, but it does require the ability to memorize and the ability to visualize how electrons move in space. Reactions in organic chemistry can be understood in terms of electron flow.
The second semester of General Chemistry tends to be more difficult than the first part since it's assumed you have mastered the basics. Acids and Bases and Electrochemistry can be confusing. You need General Chemistry for most science majors or to go into the medical profession.Jun 20, 2019

If you know the chemistry them, you can characterize most reactions just by your own knowledge, with little memorization at all. Organic chemistry is not as difficult as its reputation makes it out to be. I enjoyed the course and personally found it to be significantly easier than general chemistry.Feb 15, 2021

It's easier because there are fewer topics but more depth. Gen Chem I is a real challenge to teach during summer school. By contrast, Gen Chem II is pretty easy.
Sure, medical schools can accept a transcript with a lot of B's but the MCAT score has to be outstanding and there have to be other intangibles that make up for the lower GPA. If you're premed you know the list of intangibles. Some students also have a very compelling personal story.
General Chemistry is so hard because it's very different from most other classes and subjects. The primary reason chemistry is so hard is because of the topic progression. You really have to fully understand several topics before you can fully understand other topics.

Since many neuro students are also premed, this works out well because most medical schools also expect applicants to take this course. Overall, I would recommend taking this over the summer for those who are able to. The program I chose ran for about nine weeks and included Orgo I and II with their respective labs.Aug 1, 2019

CHEM 1011L is a one-credit, lab-only, online general chemistry course. The laboratory sections were often very fun at times, and very helpful in truly understanding the lecture concepts; for example, titrations and all of the calculations that come with them would have been completely different if I didn’t get to do them in lab.
Prerequisites: CHEM 1311, 1111 and MATH 1314 with a grade of C or better. Corequisites: CHEM 1312.
Laboratory work and reports will count as 55% of your grade. One lab report will be dropped and will not count toward your grade. Lab reports are often turned in the day the lab is completed and are due no later than the beginning of the next lab meeting. Late lab reports are subject to a 10% point penalty per lab day past the due date. Students are expected to stay for the full lab meeting time unless ALL work for the day is complete including the lab report for the day’s work.
A post-lab quiz will be given covering concepts, calculations, general procedures or other material covered in each lab and will count as 25% of your grade. One quiz will be dropped and will not count towards your grade. Prepare for these quizzes by understanding the lab, keeping a complete lab notebook and being able to repeat calculations from the lab. You will be allowed to use your lab notebook during quizzes – no loose papers are allowed during quizzes. Copying or other forms of dishonesty will not be tolerated.
Working in pairs or groups will only be allowed with the express consent of the instructor.
No cell phone use is allowed during lab (this includes ALL phone uses). Your cell phone may not be used as a calculator during any lab, quiz or exam. If I see you with your cell phone one time, I will ask you to put it away. If I see your cell phone a second time, I will take your cell phone and keep it until the end of the class period. If I see your cell phone a third time, I will take your cell phone and keep it!
