Troon North's forecaddies

They don't come cheap -- a forecaddie for a foursome costs $30 per player -- and they're only available from December through April, but what a treat.

The club itself

Troon North's clubhouse is more than 2,500 square feet and nicer than most of the custom-built homes in the area.

Monument's versatility

Troon North's Monument Course has two drivable par 4s less than 310 yards -- the 299-yard 15th hole and the 306-yard sixth -- but three of its par 3s are more than 200 yards, including No. 16, which measures a ridiculous 244 yards from the tips and drops about 50 feet from tee to green.

McDowell Mountain on one side, the Valley on the other -- bring a camera.

Feedback

Visiting Phoenix this December with wife and get to play golf on December 10. I have visited the past couple years with friends and we’ve played a majority of the good and recommended courses. However, have never played any of TPC courses and only one of the Troon courses (pinnacle).

Feedback

I would do Troon. Or Grayhawk, Or Verrado. Before I would do both TPC courses. But since you haven't played, them, you might as well. The stands should be going up, so you can play 16 with it partially set up.

Feedback

I find the Troon courses to quite penalizing (if you don't drive it straight plan to lose a lot of balls) although they are beautiful and immaculate in terms of conditioning. The TPC Stadium course isn't anything special other than the last 3 or 4 holes. The Champions course across the street is great and generally much cheaper.

I have already played those courses, as a group of us have visited one week for the past 3 years and do nothing but golf (36 daily). I haven’t done TPC and The monument course though.

Troon is a better course but TPC for the experience. Can’t go wrong with either choice!
